Walther G22...

I bought one of these yesterday. I was drawn to it because of its ability to be changed over to a left handed rifle. I was wondering, how do I do that? I took it apart yesterday but not too sure on how to switch the extractor over to the other side so that it will kick the rounds out to the left. Anyone know?

Walther recommends you take it to a gun smith to have the configuration reversed. I think the user manual has specific instructions on how to do it, but if you don't know what you're doing, I'd recommend taking it to someone who does.

Extractor (and it's spring) is kept in place by a punch-pin, as you can see from the bolt. Shouldn't be too hard to switch sides.

ok new question about it. I was at the range the other day and the charging handle broke on it. So I was wondering what to do, and should I try to get a 10/22 instead.?

If you want a left G22, order it that way. Walther builds them already left oriented & will allow your shop's wholesaler to obtain one.

Yeah I got mine in Left hand configuration mine held up great nothing broke and was very accurate I got rid of it to fund another project I wish I didn't sell it because it was a cool little plinker...

They don't sell left hand/right hand models....Its the same gun. I got that left handed thing figured out about a week ago. Its as simple as pushing the extractor pin out and flipping it to the other side. Pretty easy once I saw it done.

Now I am not worried about the fact that the left hand/right hand conversion wasn't easy or how to. Wanted to know can I easily get a charging handle, jerry rig something or should I just take it back and get a 10/22?

The charging handle is held on by a simple screw. How did it break? Did the screw just loosen and it fell off?

Yeah I like it, but I think that the screw that holds it in place was just a little cheaply made. I am trying to come up with something that I can do that I know will be a lot stronger.

No it snapped off inside the handle. I thought that it had just fell out at first so I started to put it back in and tighten it down and it just kept spinning. So I looked at the handle, and there was the head of the screw. I read somewhere on another forum that somebody sent there's off to S&W. I don't want to do that for something so simple.

I love my G22. However, I will never take it apart again. If you do, be very careful. There is a tiny, unsecured spring near the hammer that may pop out. I spent well over two hours with the lights out, on my hands and knees with a flashlight trying to find that darned little spring. For such a great rifle it has some terrible internal components.

Well I don't think much can beat a 10/22 in a houge stock and a heavy barrel for plinking...

Yeah I had an experience similar to that. I found a little packet with a spring in it in the case, and wondered why they gave me that. Yeah I found out.

Actually, there are *two* small springs that can pop out if you aren't careful...

Love mine for plinking. It's great fun and cheap to run.
