cool im thinking about a p22 for conceal carry

I would strongly recommend not going with the P22. Although it may be small and light weight, there are far better options out there for concealed carry. I own it, and I would not in a million years trust my life with this gun. From my observations, the tolerance for complete slide reciprocation is right on the cusp of what a 22 LR round is capable of exhibiting pressure wise. I'm glad some folks can run the Federal 550 round bulk pack through their P22's, but my gun will FTE on the first two rounds of every magazine without fail. I do not have any trouble with CCI mini mags, but they aren't that cheap. Bottom line, the degree in which my gun is picky on ammo does not inspire confidence in the gun's reliability, because the tolerances for proper functioning are so narrow.

I should note that this problem persisted throughout the 550 rounds, and I always clean my gun thoroughly after shooting them.

The 22 LR rimfire cartridge, while undeniably capable of lethality, is a gravely underpowered round for self defense purposes... especially when considering handgun barrel velocities.

If you are that much enamored with the P22 design, consider the PK380, it's essentially the same gun chambered in .380 Auto.

Wife liked the gun first time she saw it. If I remember right for her to pass the concealed carry permit she only has to hit a silhouette at 3,7,and 15 yards. I purchased the gun and loaded it with some Remington gold (3 mags) and Federal ammo (3 Mags). Shot the gun out of the box approximately 60 rounds just to see if it would feed with the ammo on hand or blow up taking my hand with it! The little gun ain't no 1911 but it worked for me and like I said, "she likes it."

They won't let you qualify in TX with a .22, as you may know. Jusr thought I'd mention it.

I have a P22 that is pretty fun to shoot but I do have occasional rounds not go fully into battery even with quality ammo.

Thanks for the mention....She handles the P22 much easier than the 1911 just tryng to get her on paper at this stage....she is right handed but left eye dominate!!!! Getting her to shoot left and right handed...... figure she gonna be a left hand shooter when all is said and done.

Took wife to the range today for her to shoot the P22. She has never shot a pistol except the 45acp. Really never shot anything until a couple of months ago when she began shooting the ARs and the 45. We were up early and at the range by 08:30. Did not notice until today the she was placing he left hand palm under the grip of the pistol. I was told back in the dark ages that when a gun blows up it usually will blow the mag out of the bottom of the gun and if your hand is there, "it could be a problem." Prolly not a big problem with a .22 but why start doing stuff that may be a problem later?
The Pistol was loaded with the bulk box .22lr Remington Gold ammo which fed and shot without missing a beat in the little pistol. Have been told by someone somewhere that the ammo is dirty and of poor quality.....It worked and the gun did not have a problem with it. I usually buy Federal but that is what I had and wanted to see if the pistol would have problems.
By 10:00 it felt hotter than 90F so I went inside to look at some new Glock arrivals that had just come in. Finally at 11:00 the wife came in and as my gun shop guy and I were having iced tea I asked her if she had any problems with the gun? "Who me, no I really like my gun." I figure she shot 450 rounds (looks like maybe 100 left in the box) and after further investigation she did say she had one round that did not feed properly which she cleared and continued shooting..All from a girl who couldn't hardly spell gun 2 months ago! We got home and she did not want me to clean her gun but wanted to herself. She could not get the locking release down on the pistol but finally with trial and error plus the manual which was included in the box she tore the gun down. After cleaning she tried several times to get it back together but again she is small, female, and not gifted with a lot of hand strength. I put that gun together 5 times thinking she was finished trying to figure it out just to watch her tear it down again. Finally she got a way of placing the gun butt down on a thick towel to assemble the upper assembly and she managed to do it twice before finally putting the gun in the box........Whew, I think I have created a gun freak! Actually I felt more pride at her caring and working on the gun than I did when she hit her first spent shotgun shell on the ground she was shooting at! I taught her to play Golf and she never gave up; I expect her to be ace of the base (range) in a few months only time will tell. Her biggest problem is being right handed but left eye dominate.

Thats good my wife has shot my 9mm before but that was long ago. We will shoot CB longs and Aquila super colibris, in a rifle, in the back yard. Rather quiet. But the first time she shot the P22 with Mini-Mags it scared the hell out of her......well it didnt help my dad was there and a bit overbearing. We haven't been out since cause we are quite busy but when we shoot more I hope it turns out like your story.

Actually I felt more pride at her caring and working on the gun than I did when she hit her first spent shotgun shell on the ground @ 10 yrds which she was using as a target!
