I was at the range the other day shooting my buckmark and another man with his son were shooting the Walther p22. I really liked the design except that it is too small for my hands. Anyway after they had fired their p22 for some time the front sight came off. We were able to find it and the man noticed that he had 2 extras sights in the box. The gun was new to them so he too like me did not know this. My question is it very common for the front sight to come off from shooting? Is the front sight supposed to be glued on? Thanks for reading my thread.

There are 3 sights included with the gun.
They are of different heights to regulate the sights to the ammunition being used.
It is common for the darned things to fall off the pistols.

So the sights are to change point of impact. I guess it is not a good idea to glue the sights to the gun than. Thanks for the info. It is a shame that it is a common problem, but on the plus side I won't be buying one now. Thanks again.

I've shot at least 1500 rounds through my P22 and the front sights haven't come off.
If this turns out to be a problem, there is a very easy fix, that does not require glue. You can get a small set screw (also known as a grub screw).
These headless allen head screws can be screwed into the split body of the front sight from the inside of the slide. This effectively flares out the sight base and wedges it firmly against the slot it sits in.
You'll probably need something small like a 1.5mm x 1.5mm. These are commonly found in hobby stores.

Hate to see you not get one because of this issue. The P22 is a lot of fun to shoot.
Smith & Wesson sent me a spare set of sights free of charge but I just found the one that worked with the ammunition I normally use and glued it into place. My wife and I both have P22s; I use the larger grip insert.

A dab of super glue is all it takes.
I'm reasonably sure if I ever need to change it, I can still get the old one out.
