I have a Walther P38 all steel gun. On the gun's right side there are no marking of any kind. On the left side there are the Walther logo and Carl Walther Waffenfabik Ulm/Do. and P38 below this. On the frame is a four digit SN# 14XX. and a faint proof mark with the initials BH. The machining appears to be some what rough compared to other German guns. My thought is towards the end of the war they were not taking the time to finish the gun and just shoving them out the door.
Does anyone have information on when the gun was made and why there is no other marks or information on the gun

Does it have any waffenamts? I think any wartime production guns would have them. My P38 has them everywhere, but it's a Spreewerke not a Walther. Also I know some wartime Walthers had the Banner Logo, but I think most of them had the military code "ac" stamped on them instead.

Your Walther slide is from a post-war gun.
Until the end of the war the Walther plant was at Zella Mehlis.
After the war, Walther built their new plant in the 1950's at Ulm.

The later war guns were roughly finished with lots of machine mark.
The makers ID code stamp was on the slide, along with the year made.
Walther's war-time code was "ac", stamped on the slide along with the year made.
Walther also stamped the German inspector's office Nazi Eagle stamp on the slide and frame.
The Walther inspectors code was "359" stamped under the small Eagle stamp.

Sounds like you have a post-war slide on a war-time frame.

There is no ID code on the right side of the gun. No markings of any kind. It has the Walther logo and the above information. There is no date code, no inspector code nothing except the four digit SN# which is on the frame , below the barrel and that's it. Sounds like I have parts gun. Non the less it shoots straight and works fine.
