I have been unable to find anything negative about this firearm in my recent web research, except for it's price. Based on that, I'm seriously considering a Walther P5 to occupy my "all steel 9mm niche."

Also in the competition, (IOW stuff my friends would be willing to part with) :):

Baby Eagle/CZP01
Beretta 92fs
Browning Hi-Power (Belgian)
Sig P226

What say you?

P5 isn't all steel, but is a great gun, but cost and the availabilty of newer designs fo me any way just make it a fun gun,not one for carry

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Beretta is not steel framed either. I'm pretty sure they use a lightweight alloy frame.

Later,
Chrome...

Is the P5 Alloy framed? And does the weight or low capacity (or both) discourage you from carry?

Thanks, good to know.

The P5 is sweet - Go check out the Walther Forum!

I already have, the green phosphate photo is the reason why I'm in P5 lust. I'm hoping to get some cold dashes of water here, over there I'll just get more cooing and sweet-talk.:)

Walther P5's I believe are considered to the among the finest pistols ever produced by Walther.. The P88 was (I think) at the absolute top of the quality food chain, but it was PRICY so never took off. The Walther P5's have the reputation for being top quality.

My Walther P5 has been very, very accurate and 100% reliable.

I have gone over to the "dark side" in my lust for another Seecamp so my P5 resides in the "for sale" area of this forum.

Keep in mind this is a single stack 9mm, and I think probably 80%+ of the pistols you will find for sale are surplus German government trade-in's... That's not a big deal as the Germans are known for being anal retentive with all things mechanical, and have a wonderful repuation for quality maintence on their stuff. The visible slide wear is from holster use, and apparently most of these Walther P5's are carried a lot, shot a little.

I know my P5 shot poa/poi right out of the box at 15'.. That's good enough for me.

Best Wishes,

J. Pomeroy
