Does anyone know the approximate manufacture date of a Walther PP (not PPK or PPK/S)?
The serial number is 393XXX.
It has the Ulm/DO mark.

Thanks in advance.

It should have a date stamp on the barrel, next to the proof mark. Your serial number is within a few thousand of mine, which is a 1970 date. Yours is older.

The Model PP guns with serial numbers starting at 300301 and running to 474866 were made from January 1961 to September 1985. Despite the Walther banner and the "Carl Walther Waffenfabrik Ulm/Do." slide legend, all Model PPs made before serial number 700001 were manufactured in France by Manurhin. They are sweet guns.

I am new to this forum and have just aqquired a Walther PP. The serial number is 354032P, what more information do I need to provide to find out all possible about this piece.

Post pics or descriptions of all markings.

You can get a copy of Dieter Marschall's excellent book, "Walther Pistols Models 1 Through P99" from Ucross Books in New Mexico, which will give you all of the basics. It's well worth the investment. You also can send an email to the company in Germany with the serial number of your gun. They have information on all of their post-war guns (the pre-war and war-year records all were destroyed). Here's a link:

They are generally very good at getting back to you within a couple of working days.
