This is a S&W stainless Walther PPK/S with recall work done, thick trigger bar. The thin frame metal behind the bar was machined off at the factory.

On SA, the trigger has a small bump right before breaking. Traced it to the hook of the trigger bar sliding sideways (inwards) on the catch tooth. The bar actually rotates a small but visible amount until the bar catches solidly on the tooth.

I do not have another Walther to compare the trigger pull to see if it feels steady until breaking or if this bumpy feel is common.

Has anybody dressed the hook on the trigger bar or the tooth to control how these parts engage together? Seems to me a solid engagement of the other end at the trigger should prevent the rotation, yet here it is.

I believe the bar is MIM. Does anybody know if these parts are hardened?

Thanks for any advice.

That doesn't sound right to me. I would contact S&W and explain the problem; doing the work yourself or having it done might void the warranty. MIM parts are hard, which might make working on them difficult.

Thanks, Jim. It makes sense and I'll give them a call next week. I think the warranty on these guns was only one year. I just want it to be reliable and to feel right to my hand.

It seems that the thin frame behind the bar was providing support to the rear of the trigger bar. When it was machined off during the recall, the bar moves inward into the slot as the trigger is pulled in SA. The trigger bar has a metal ear extending down that rides over the frame as the bar moves forward and provides support to the bar at the rear. This could have been Walther's solution to this but it is not working well on my gun.

It could also be that the side plates of the cocking piece are not parallel so the bar slips sideways when pulled. The plates are 0.774" at the rear bt the hammer and 0.788" at the front by the pins. It may be simple enough to close that angle a little bit with the help of a vise, if S&W thinks it is safe to slightly bend a MIM part.
