I am getting an itch for a Walther PPQ 5" barrel model.
I see the 9mm is very scarce & is priced over $600 when found.
The 22LR version is priced less than $400.
Is the 22LR version of the PPQ the same quality as the 9mm version?
Both say made in Germany.
Isn't the little Walther P22 made by another firm?
I have many 9mm handguns & very few 22LR, but I do not like 22LR pistols made of zinc or pot metal. Polymer framed pistols are OK with me, but zinc slides, NO!
Anyone have one of these?
Are the 22's any good? Is the slide steel?

This link from a review of the PPQ .22 by Truth About Guns should be helpful. Sounds like a solid pistol and I might have to pick one up for myself soon being a PPQ 9MM owner.

"No zinc alloy here. The PPQ M2 .22’s slide is hard anodized, CNC machined aluminum. For long-term durability a steel breech block, containing the firing pin mechanism, extractor, breech face, etc is pinned into the slide. Another nice touch, although not unique to this pistol, is a steel pin inserted into he back of the slide lock notch. I smiled when I saw that, as it will prevent the steel slide stop from wearing away at and rounding out the notch."

"Suppressed or not, this pistol has been incredibly reliable. I’ve managed to run about 8 brands of ammo through it, from high velocity premium stuff to cheap, dirty bulk stuff, some with waxed lead bullets and some with jacketed round nose and jacketed hollow points, and the PPQ has cycled it all. Not a single failure of any sort since taking it out of the box when it was brand new."

Thanks for the positive reply SigArms228! :)
After just ordering a new Steyr L9-A1, a 22LR version of the PPQ may be just the way to get one of these.
The 9mm is scarce & the high price reflects that.
I am only interested in the 5" barrel with long slide.
I just shoot at paper targets & I have a few thousand rounds of wax coated 22LR match ammo.

The .22LR PPQ is made by Umarex in Arnsberg, Germany (near Cologne) and has the "shield with three crowns" proofmark of the Cologne proofhouse. The PPQ (9mm and .40SW) is made by Walther in Ulm Germany, and carries the "staghorn" proofmark of the Ulm proofhouse.

Walther in Ulm has a reputation for producing very high-quality pistols like the P99, PPQ, and PPS.

Umarex... not so much. They primarily make airsoft toys, starter pistols, and lower-quality potmetal (Zamak) rimfires, such as the "Walther" P22, and a number of other licensed guns (including .22s marketed as HK, Colt, and S&W products). If the .22LR PPQ slide is an aluminum alloy, perhaps that is a move in a good direction for them, but I would not expect the same quality as a real Walther pistol.
