It's time to purchase my favorite style holster for a newly acquired Walther pps 9mm

I'm looking for recommendations for makers or items on sale currently. I'd like to keep price under $100 and of course in this day n age lead times are a concern.

For clarity, are you referring to a particular model of holster, such as the DeSantis "Speed Scabbard" ( http://www.desantisholster.com/stor...SORY/BELT-HOLSTERS/Speed-Scabbard/Walther/PPS ), or are you referring to a type of holster? If the latter, I'm not sure what you mean.

The two basic styles of OWB holster would be the Bruce Nelson #1 Professional (also known as the Avenger or wraparound style) with probably the best known example being the Milt Sparks 55BN ( http://www.miltsparks.com ), or the Pancake style such as the Simply Rugged Cuda ( http://shop.simplyrugged.com/ecommerce/Cuda.cfm?item_id=155&parent=669 ).

Here is some holster design information from Horseshoe Leather that may help clarify what you may be looking for. http://www.holsters.org/holster-design.htm

I'm referring to a type of holster.

A few manufacturers make "speed scabbards" which are basically pancake holsters but tend to cover more of the gun and never have a thumb break. You tend to see the type referenced more with revolvers than automatics.

Most just call them pancake holsters though I agree.

I'm looking for forward cant, a close to the body fit and somewhat of a high ride.

The three makers I mentioned above all have high ride pancakes.

I have a High Noon Need For Speed (for a 1911) that has good coverage, high ride, FBI cant, and carries close to the body. My model is cowhide with the lining. It is a very solid holster. Their Topless model is the same holster without the tall sweat shield.

You might give this company a look: http://store.dmbullardleather.com/catalog/product/34aca5ed40ce47f9b0f7d62074f0f0ed

I got one of these, and it's a great holster. I won't buy holsters that stick you with overly large belt slots -- not when holsters like this one are available that give you a choice. I don't wear 1 3/4 inch belts, and don't see why I should have to buy a holster that only has that size belt slots, so that every time I draw, the holster is going to ride up half an inch before it lets go of the gun. That slows the draw down. The Bullard holster (and others from Milt Sparks and Kramer Handgun Leather), offer you the option of different sized belt slots, so you can have a holster properly fitted to the belts you wear. That means they have it make it for you after you order it, which takes longer, since they can't just pluck a one-size-fits-all model off a shelf and ship it out. But I think the better fit is worth the wait.

Thanks for the input guys.

Here's where I'm at. Ive learned the hard way that until I wear a particular gun I've no clue as to what I really want from a holster. So what I've got in the habit of doing is starting with a cheap eBay holster similar to what I THINK I want. Then I can wear that for a few weeks while I decide what changes I want to make when ordering a fine piece of leather as you've been so kind to post above.

I ordered this holster which for the price is surprisingly good albeit a little spartan on the finish. So far the gun carries very well and doesn't really print at all. However I would like a little less cant when I order something nice to replace it.

If kydex is OK, Raven Concealment (and all the similar designs) and Garrett Industries offer kydex with adjustable cant and ride height. They are very handy for figuring out what cant and ride height works best with just the one holster.

Raven Concealment Phantom http://www.ravenconcealment.com

Garrett Industries STX (leather lined kydex) http://garrettindustries.mybigcommerce.com/silent-thunder-stx/

Garrett has a new design coming (I don't think it's on the website yet) along the lines of Raven's Phantom, but as with the rest of the Garrett line-up, will be available with leather lining.
