Wanna talk me into a 6" 629?

Not really looking to buy or sell anything today just window shopping. Short version pawn shop owner wanted to trade me a 6" 629 (did checkout which came out fine, gun is in VG+ condition) for my 4506-01 also in very good+ condition.

While I like the 4506 for it's dresser drawer, big cool, Vic Mackey carries one role.. it's really become somewhat of a safe queen. Factory ammo is expensive and while I reload where I do most of my shooting finding scattered brass is a pain so I have not even bothered to get dies for it.

Don't hunt anymore, no big bears to worry about where I live, suppose it could be considered for a nightstand gun with proper ammo if I end up liking it (no overpenetration issues in my rural home ) But mainly it would just fill out the battery as my "big gun" compared to my 2 1/2", 3" and 4" K-frame 357's.

If you think 45 ACP ammo is expensive, have you priced 44 Magnum ammo lately? WalMart is selling 100 rounds of 45 ACP for $20, your not likely to find 100 rounds of 44 Magnum or 44 Special for $20! As a defensive cartridge, I think the 45 ACP is better than 44 Magnum when used against human targets and the ringing in your ears might not last as long with 45 ACP.

I say buy it if you can.....

A 6" revolver of quality is so easy to shoot it is not even funny. If you have the desire to step over to the rifle side of your range with a handgun there are few better ways to start than a 6" 44 mag. 44 Mag is cheap to reload, and if you want to shoot it much it you need to reload for it. Currrent production 44 mag ammo is so lightloaded and sissyfied it is pathetic, it does not even approach what 44 mag can do and recoil is very tolerable for most shooters. The 629 is a nice nice gun. You can get your money back out of it easily if you buy it right. I say buy it and sell it if you don't like it, you are taking anecdotal advise until you own one and shoot it.......

If you think 45 ACP ammo is expensive, have you priced 44 Magnum ammo lately?

Should have been clearer on that stans, I do reload and would get setup to reload for the .44 if I got it. 45 ACP never bothered to buy dies for as my usual shooting location makes tracking down brass an issue so I'm pretty much stuck with factory stuff. Revolvers advantage, all the used brass just goes in my pocket

While the 6" Smith model 629 is an excellent weapon
in its own right; I would rather talk you into a 5"
model 629! It's just something about those 5" Smith
N-frames that I like? I guess its the fact that I seem
to hit everything that I aim at~

Much as I like the .44mag it may not be a good trade.

Quick search on the 4506-01 looks like it's worth more than a 629.

I'd check to be sure.

Came close to buying a 6" 629 back in the late 80's. Currently own a 6.5" 629 Classic and like it quite a bit - the most accurate 44 revolver I have owned.

To me - the older 629 like the one in the pic should be called the Classic - why S&W named the newer style 629 with the barrel underlug the "Classic" never made sense to me.

Every man who doesnt hanve one should own 1 smith 44 in his lifetinme. They are for thre most part really sweet guns. And verstile! with the right ammo you can shoot everything from bunnies to bears or boars its that good. Loaded to 44 spec ial levels its a great house gun as well. Do I have a 629? What do you think<VBG> A;sp if recoil doesent bother you theres nothing like power plinking with full loads to get the blood pumping its great! Buy it I doubt you will regret it.

My pre-agreement Smith & Wesson model 629 with 6.5-inch barrel is extremely accurate with the loads it likes best. It's not the most versatile gun I own, nor by any means the prettiest, but it's definitely a keeper.

Why do all of you guys need to be talked into buying a gun? I walked into a shop a couple weeks back and ended up putting money down on a Super Blackhawk in .454 and .480. Then a couple days ago I had to put money down on a 500 S&W. I need someone to talk me out of buying a gun
