oh, boy. you like throwing gas on a fire, huh?

i feel like rock river arms has the best combination of quality, price and service in the business; in that order. their quality is tops, their price is competitive but their fulfillment was pretty slow.

stag arms is said to be good as well, but the left hand, special edition m4 upper that i bought my lady friend had some issues out of the box. they were easy to solve and the fix was cheaper than shipping to the factory but the rifle still doesn't like commercial loads so it might yet get a trip back to the factory. others don't have any complaints so we might have gotten that one in a million lemon or something. my test sample of one isn't exactly comprehensive.

model 1 sales had a great price and service when i ordered one of their uppers but the fit and finish is less than perfect. the rifle functions just fine, but it's just not quite as pretty as other rifles. the barrel is only 11 1/2" so i can't give a good estimate of accuracy but i'd guess that it is less than some of the other makers. still, that's just a gues.

my other ars were purchased complete so i have no report on the online side of it, but both bushmaster and colt have served me well. the bottom line is that i have yet to run into a real horror story like some people report so, in my experience, it's most likely going to come down to what features you want and what you're willing to spend.

VinnyT,

Not to be a smartaleck, but you only two choices of where to buy: from an individual, or from a dealer.

If you buy from an individual (I mean a non-dealer), then you have a somewhat limited selection, but you get to avoid the paperwork, transfer fees and taxes. Your state laws may restrict this process.

If you buy from a dealer, then you have nearly unlimited choices, but you may have to pay transfer fees, taxes, and background check fees. If you are buying from an online dealer, then the rifle will still have to be transferred through your local dealer with all the required paperwork. Your state laws may restrict this process as well.

Basically, look around on the 'net to decide what you like and what you are willing to pay. Then look around in your area to see what is available. That should keep you busy for quite awhile.

Have you been over to AR15.com? They have more info than you can absorb.

AR15.com equipment exchange message board. You will find a plethora of dealers and individuals that will direct you to exactly what you are looking for, new or used, at some very good prices.

First decide on which brand you want. Some dealers will specialize on a certain company. I know a couple of dealers that sell RRA's because I just bought one, but if you want a Bushmaster then I wouldn't know.

I'll be posting a Rock River group buy on February 1st if you are interested.
