I want to buy a revolver for concealed carry. There are few local gun shops in this part of Indiana with decent selections and the prices are sky high. Is there a legal way for me to buy at a gun show in the big city in the next state over?
1) Can I buy from an Ohio dealer?
2) Could I buy from an Indiana dealer at the Ohio show?
3) Is there any way to transfer the gun to me in Indiana?
4) Suggestions?

I am really afraid to buy off the internet. Is that an unfounded fear?
Thanks everyone.

You cannot purchase a handgun from anyone other than a resident or FFL in your home state. An FFL cannot deliver handguns at an out-of-state gun show. He can take orders, but can't deliver them. You need to find a local FFL that will do a transfer for you. Check GunsAmerica, GunBroker, or a local gun shop or pawn shop. Than have your out-of-state seller ship the gun to them.

1. Yes, you can buy from an Ohio FFL dealer, so long as they transfer it to an Indiana FFL holder for you to pick up. You donot have to buy from the Indiana dealer.

2. I can't imagine why an Indiana dealer would be at an Ohio show.

3. See no. 1.

Suggestions: There are gun shows in Indiana. You have a better chance of making a FTF buy without using an FFL holder (unless Indiana has some law that prevents it).

I have had good luck buying online. The same procedures apply for any out of state purchase. gunbroker.com and buy/sell on this forum are good resources. poppy

If you live near a state border (like I do), most FFL transfers are very common and most dealers should have no problem setting one up. Unless you are on very friendly terms with one of your local dealers there is usually a transfer fee (anywhere from $5-$30), but you pay for the actual gun at the original dealer. You might have to wait a day or two while the dealer finds time to ship the gun to your state, but the overal hassle isn't bad if you're saving $100 on the gun.
