Hello everyone... I'm heading up to a Indiana state park for some camping, hiking, fishing, etc. in about a month. I'm a Kentucky resident and Concealed Carry Licensee. In reading Indiana law/regulations I saw that there is an exemption for those that don't have a Unlimited Handgun License in the state of Indiana if you have license to carry in your own state. I know there is reciprocity between Kentucky and Indiana for concealed carry but I wanted to know if this would apply to my open carry in an Indiana state park or if since Kentucky is a license free, open carry state (Have Carry Will Carry), or if My concealed carry permit would apply in the case of the state park. The info I'm looking at was from the HandgunRulsesPublic.pdf found here http://www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/about/HandgunRulesPublic.pdf which says that exemptions are applicable to individuals that are referenced in IC 35-47-2-21 (b) - which states

C 35-47-2-21
Recognition of retail dealers' licenses and licenses to carry handguns issued by other states
Sec. 21. (a) Retail dealers' licenses issued by other states or foreign countries will not be recognized in Indiana except for sales at wholesale.
(b) Licenses to carry handguns, issued by other states or foreign countries, will be recognized according to the terms thereof but only while the holders are not residents of Indiana.
As added by P.L.311-1983, SEC.32.

Thanks In Advance,
Moxy

You might get on the Indiana State Park web site and check their policies & regulations.

Moxy, Indiana recognizes the licenses of all states and all foreign countries. The key for you is in paragraph (b).

See where it says "according to the terms thereof"? If your license says "carry" then carry however you wish. If your license mandates concealment (or if you are in Kentucky "conceal and carry":D), then cover up like you are in the Bluegrass State.

Which park? Enjoy your vacation here north of the Ohio.:)

but I wanted to know if this would apply to my open carry in an Indiana state park

I'd consider what is a better advantage while hiking in a park- open carry or concealed. The issue with open is it draws unwanted attention with anyone you encounter.

Just an additional caveat that might apply, depending on where you go.

from http://www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/about/rules.html

Eight of Indiana’s reservoirs and a portion of Falls of the Ohio State Park are owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and leased to the State, and federal regulations prohibiting firearms currently apply at these properties. Individuals may not carry handguns or other firearms at Monroe, Patoka, Brookville, Salamonie, Mississinewa, Roush, Cecil M. Harden (Raccoon), or Cagles Mill (Lieber) Lake and Falls of the Ohio State Park except in areas open to hunting and in accordance with hunting regulations. Under federal regulations, individuals cannot carry a handgun strictly for the purpose of personal protection while on these federally-owned properties. The only time a person is allowed to carry a handgun on one of these properties is when a handgun is carried as a piece of equipment when hunting a wild animal during the hunting season and is a legal weapon to use to hunt that animal under DNR regulations. Hardy Lake is owned by the State and, therefore, handguns are allowed to be carried on that property.

Siderite - great now you've made my job that much harder lol - my understanding was that the regs I posted originally were a temporary replacement for the one you found until 2008. I wrote the Indiana F&W but so far no response on the issue. I'm going to try to call before I leave for California next week.

Thanks Guys.
