Washing mags in the laundry...

LOL. I had something similar happen, but it was a couple of 9mms, and it didnt jam their machine up. The girl just handed me the rounds with the ticket to get cashed. Must happen a lot, as she was all nonchalant about it. :)

Due to "unload show clear" I routinely wash bullets. Never a mag though.

Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Did the Shield have a manual safety? Was it engaged?

Yes, and it was engaged. Never clicked off. I've had that gun close to 5 years now and in all the time I've had it it only clicked off once in the very beginning. That was when I was monitoring it super closely and also doing little things on purpose to see how easily the safety could be switched off. It occurred to me that maybe I even forgot to switch it on that time. I'll never know. It was my 4th dedicated weapon for concealed carry and quickly superceded all the others in quality and ease of carry..although for safety, toughness and reliability my Makarov still wins. That's how it still stands.

Overall it seems a fairly safe handgun. In this case it simply seems a better holster or a holster mod is in order. Even using just the belt clip in my waistband that probably wouldnt have happened.

Besides washing ammo in the washing machine, and sending ammo through the coin counter..... I also have a tendancy to carry my spare ccw magazine around, even if I dont have my gun.
It's an old habit to remove my pocketknife, flashlight, wallet, handkerchief (yes, every day), and my spare mag. I put them on a shelf , ready to load up for the next day. If for some reason, i choose to not carry on a particular day...its not at all uncommon for me to still have my spare mag in my left front with my flashlight.

Whatever duee; it's your life; no way anyone does that who understands the risks

I am surprised that no one is concerned about putting something cover in lead residue and other toxic substances in the dishwasher or clothes washer. The dirtiest part of shooting it the power residue left on and in spent cases. Mags and their followers are also covered in it.

This is nothing compared to what the wifie would do to me.

I never ran any of my gun related items through a washer or dishwasher, but it's wonder. My wife would kill me to if she found out.
But I did dump about a dozen primed 38 specials in my ultrasonic with citric acid and gave them a 16 minute bath in some very hot water.
After I discovered what I had done I decided to turn it into a science experiment so I set them up on a shelf and left them there to dry for a couple months.
I took one of the unloaded brass out in the back yard and fired it to see if the primer still worked and it shot just fine.
