Monkey see, monkey do. The disreputable gun range I haunt has a gallon dispenser of D-Lead on the cleanup sink, so I bought some and have been using it for a week at home. Anyone have experience with it? If it's all marketing hype, it is too dear to buy.

D lead soap and wipes do nothing more than regular soap and water.

Most hand soaps have an ingredient called EDTA which is a chelating agent. That is what removes lead and other soils.

I shoot at an outdoor range with no amenities. I bring a gal jug of water and a pump bottle of Dial hand soap. Wash my hands and arms before I get in the car to drive home.

The range i shoot at has a big orange bottle of Go-Joe stuff like you would use after working on your car. Abrasive degreaser for cleaning up and getting everything off. Its appreciated.

Thanks for your experienced replies. I would calculate by how much percentage you increased my understanding, but I started from zero. Knowledge gained is money saved.

To put this into perspective. I am probably the most paranoid member on THR when it comes to lead... and I just wash my hands with soap and water.

The indoor range around me also has the D lead wipes. I am sure that the soap and hand wipes work very well, just not worth the higher expense over regular soap IMHO.

From the MSDS of D lead, this is the active ingredient.

Thanks, Rule3, I failed intro chem in collich, an awesome ref! Is that degredient (as Norm Crosby would say) good or bad?

leefan - You should follow my lead and stay at the Holiday Inn Express. Makes me reel smart.

The active ingredient sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate looks like it is okay as long as you don't eat it. Main ingredient in laundry detergent. So if you want a cheaper source, you now know where to find it.

All right! I just bought some Dawn for my undersonic cleaner and ah'll poot it to dewel use! Thanks for the down to urth advice!
