Went to my usual bank this morning to get some quarter rolls, and it was closed for remodeling. I then went accross town to a newer branch. Inside the doors were some ATMs, and then another set of doors to go into the main lobby. These doors lead into an "airlock," one going in and one going out. The entering airlock had a metal detector inside it that you had to pass through once both doors were closed and locked. (Red and green lights told you when the doors were locked or unlocked.) Once you were cleared, the inner door would unlock, and you would be admitted into the bank. There was a security guard there, and he would only allow one person through the lock at a time. He also had control of the outgoing lock, but he would let more than one person go out at a time. (There was no metal detector in the exiting airlock.)

Now, I've seen metal detectors in banks before, but never one that captured and held you while you went through it. It really creeped me out! What's worse, once inside, the bank wasn't secure at all. There were no counters, just service islands where you would stand next to the teller while they opened the cash drawer! The teller who gave me my cash had a real hard time getting all the bills and coin rolls right AND keeping an eye on me while the drawer was open.

I really don't like the idea of being locked in a glass cage and scanned, just to go into the bank. Call me paranoid, or clausterphobic, or whatever, I just don't like it.

I suggest finding a new bank or using the driveup.

Alternatively

carry a perfectly innocent chunk of iron, machine part, pliers, etc. and annoy them with false positives.

If I find another bank to switch to, who's to say they won't install man traps too? I doubt that would be a deal breaker for enough people for the bank to care if I left.

Carrying a leatherman or a pair of pliers through would be fun, but my current plan is to ask the management what a legitimate ccw holder should do when going through their trap.

How many of you would surrender your carry gun to the guard on entry, if you knew he would give it back to you when you left?

Is it illegal to carry in a bank where you live? It is not here but I know alot of states have that on the list of prohibited places.

I woudn't like that either. Sounds like a form of imprisonment to me. What if there is a power failure?

Sounds like Swiss or European security process. 1 person at a time, caged, scanned, allowed access for business. Recaged for egress.
Should probably cut down bank robberies at that bank.
Some legitimate walk-in business too.
Direct deposit. (Does not help rolled coin)

Drive thru. (Does not help rolled coin)
Take business elsewhere.
