WashPost:"'Die-In' Counts the Minutes" (pro-gun-control protest)

Drivers of automobiles will kill 110 people on US roads today. They'll do it again tomorrow.

Maybe we should make getting a car as hard as it is to (legally) get a gun.

Liberals think exactly like 6 year olds. (Or perhaps "feel" is a better word for their mental process.)

"We'd like it to be as difficult to get a gun as to get a driver's license," Tina Gehring said.

If this is the best advice they can provide, what shall we think of anything they say? And, shall we logically conclude that they really couldn't care less about any of us?

Any chance we could convince them to make it a little more realistic by having their little meeting 30' below the surface of the Potomac below Little Falls?

They're clearly not the sharpest tools in the shed so to speak....

I posted this a couple months ago, and I think the point still stands:

The idea that guns should be regulated "like cars" has always been one of the worst comparisons the gun grabbers throw out. Guns are already regulated much more tightly than cars. If guns were registered like cars we'd have MUCH fewer gun laws.

A car does not have to be registered unless you want to drive it on a public road. There are no legal regulations or background checks inherent in buying a car and anyone who has the money can legally buy any car they want from whoever they want (whether they're a dealer or an out of state private party). It is perfectly legal to build a car to whatever specifications you want, transport it on a trailer (there's no requirement to conceal), "loaded" with whatever kind of fuel or accessories you want, wherever you want (interstate included), and use it however you want on private property. There are also no laws regarding who can own or use a car on private property. A driver's license is only needed to drive on public roads (there have been several amateur/ semi-professional racers who weren't old enough to have a driver's license). Furthermore, the ONLY time a car must be registered or is subject to any government regulation is if you want to operate it on public roads (shooting in public?).

If guns were regulated like cars, it would be perfectly legal for a 14-year-old to build a machine gun at home and carry it in the open to the range, where they could use whatever kind of ammo they want (at the discretion of the range owner of course).

It's amazing that even a 6 year old understands that good people without guns+bad guy with a gun=dead nice people. I personally do not want to be one of those blue people.

With the gun laws=car laws argument, I have cash and carried cars both in state and out of state with fully automatic transmissions, pistol grip shifters, retractable roofs, high capacity twin fuel tanks, and all had those barrel shrouds, you know the thing that goes up over your shoulder:D

It's also good to know that unlike guns, cars are never stolen, used in crimes, or heaven forbid driven on public roads by people who don't have a liscense. I guess car control laws work:rolleyes: (sarcasm off)

She wants getting a gun to be as hard as getting a drivers license? Well good news everyone, it IS harder to get a gun than a driver's license:

Gun:
To buy from dealer requires min. age of 18 for long gun, 21 for handgun.
You can't be a felon.
You must undergo a criminal background check to find out if you're a felon.
Typically you must pay hundreds of dollars for one.
Some states require that you get a license to buy guns in the first place.

Driver's license:
You can get it if you're 16 in most states.
You can get one if you're 15 and 9 mos old (learner's permit)
you can be a felon.
There is no background check
you must pass a driving "test", even though driving a car takes considerable skill and caution.
Typically you won't pay more than a hundred dollars in fees for one.

Well, I guess they can go home now, mission accomplished! :banghead:

Wonder what would have happened had someone wandered through their "die-in" and dropped empty holsters on the "bodies?"

We need to stage our own "die-ins." Complete with signs explaining how the victims died. I can print them and mail them to you.

The empty holster idea is great. Tag 'em with big cardboard tags that say "disarmed victim" and drop 'em next to the "victims."

Live in won't work. Can't get enough gunnies together to make it worthwhile. We don't know how to organize, and if a few of us get together, it's argument city.

We need "inside" information. You _know_ this was staged. They got their people together. They CALLED THE MEDIA (gunnies expect 'em to magically show up), and they probably wrote the story for the reporter (who likely just edited a bit.

Next time they do something like this, we need to be prepared, with our own handouts, our own press release, and a few signs and symbolic empty holsters.

I like where you're going with this one.
You're the one that educated her...;)

"We were so outraged by this tragic incident with guns," said Loretta Sevier, Web coordinator at the Potomac School in McLean and an organizer of the event. "We thought we had to do something."

Yeah, like get your head examined.

If the antis really want to treat guns like cars, someone should propose a Federal bill to strike all the gun-related language from Title 18, then insert "firearms" into all the vehicle related sections. Just to see if they'd go for it. When they don't, we can point and shriek for a change about how they don't want "sensible gun laws."

Or if they did go for it, well, a few States would have a net gain of freedom in the form of shall-issue licenses. Automatic gun "transmissions" for everybody sounds good too. :neener:

Wow, I actually feel dumber for having read that article. On the flip side, I now feel better about my life...I was starting to wonder about my wife swhen we were moving this weekend and I got soaked when I moved the box containing the coffee maker, as my wife forgot to take the coffee out BEFORE packing it....but I now realize that isnt anywhere near as senseless as the things that some people do, like these women for instance...

A more constructive response would have been learning how to shoot and getting a CCW.

I dont think its high road to attack her because she plays in the orchestra.

Just because she is a musician does not mean that she does not know about constitutional law. Does anyone here know about it? What makes us so qualified.

What I simply meant was that it was not germane at all to the article and does nothing to amplify her credentials for speaking on this issue.

If you're going to spout off credentials like that, it should have something to do with the issue at hand.

Besides, that orchestra isn't that good.....;)

You would think that it was easier to get a license to practice medicine, than to legally buy a gun the way more people die from malpractice every day in this country...
