Hey everybody,

I'm seriously considering purchasing a Romanian WASR 10. The price is great and I'm not looking for a modern, ultra high-tech assault rifle; I just want a fun little AK plinker that goes bang every time. I highly doubt I'd take it beyond 100 yds so accuracy is not the highest priority. I've done some research and the only thing that worries me is this magazine wobble that I keep reading about; could someone explain to me exactly what this issue is, how serious it is, how to avoid it etc. Any help is appreciated.

All magazines will have a little wobble. How to avoid? Do you have access to the rifle? Stick a mag in and see how much side to side movement there is. If there's "too much," then you probably ought not buy that gun. Maybe about a quarter inch is normal.
Also check the front sight and the gas piston for cant. That was also an issue.
The good news is that most recent WASR 10s have been OK; the company that sells them, CAI, has been doing a better job with their quality control. I have a WASR 10 I bought a year and a half ago that, while looking sorta rough, runs like a top and is as accurate as I need it to be.

I own a Romanian WASR 10 underfolder and love it. As far as the mag wobbling..... its an AK. Mine does it with my Tapco mag and every other mag I have. I would worry it it didn't rattle and wobble a bit.

The 'mag wobble' you should be concerned about hasn't been seen in near a decade.

The haters will never let us forget that Century shipped some of their early imports with hogged-out mag wells that actually caused the weapon to malfunction.

As has been stated, they all have "wobbly" parts - it's part of the charm

So long as your "wobbly parts" don't cause any malfunctions, you have nothing to complain about.

Mag wobble, if it bothers you is an easy fix. Get some steel computer port covers, or anything thin steel or aluminum shims and cut them to the approx. size of the dimples on the original AK receiver. JB weld them to the inside of the receiver and voila, mag wobble solved. My WASR-10 has been through a couple cases of Wolf and Brown Bear ammo and rode hard with this fix, and has never malfunctioned.

FSB cant is a different story, make sure you visually inspect the gun for this. It isn't too hard to fix, but can be a pain. Ideally you can find a gun with mag wobble and get the dealer to knock some off the price.

I bought myself a WASR 10 for Christmas (actually 10/63 GP) and the mag fits nice and snug in the well. I would highly recommend inspecting the rifle in person prior to purchase. When you inspect it yourself, you can insert a magazine and check for wobble. Or any other problems. I'm very pleased with mine.

When I bought my WASR, the LGS owner let me walk around to his suplus ak mag rack, and check the mags until i found one that was the perfect fit for the rifle. i've had mags that fit perfect, mags that wobbled, and mags that wouldn't fit in at all. There seems to be quite a range of "spec" on these, so I'd basically take it to the gun shows and shops and "try" mags before you buy them.

The best advice for one of these is to inspect before you buy. I would not buy one sight unseen. If you inspect and find a good one without canted sights and good magwell they are good to go.

Again, these aren't issues if they don't cause problems.

All Kalashnikovs have "canted sights" (at both ends, and also canted gas blocks) to some degree. The problem arises when they're so canted you can't sight them in.

If you're into "pretty" guns or require your gun's parts be "true", then the AK is definitely not for you.

I agree my WASR has a canted front sight, but it did zero out so I do not care as long as it shoots point of aim.

My sights are center as well and have no problem at 100 yards. It's a gun that can be cleaned in a mud puddle...... its gonna rattle and wobble but will do the job tasked for it.

I just got a wasr 10 about four months ago or so. It's front sight is canted a litte, however, I have shot it out to 200 yards and it's dead on. As far as mag wobble, I wouldn't know what to say about that, as mine came with the gun NIB and seem to fit pretty well.

I'm pleased with the one I got. I haven't seen what kind of group I get at 100 yards, but I had no trouble pulverising skeet laying on a the dirt backstop at that range. Which in my book is good enough for zombies!

My WASR 10 underfolder came from Century Arms with one plastic Tapco magazine (no wobble) and three steel mil-surplus magazine (with wobble). The Tapco has been flawless but I get so many failures to feed from the mil surplus magazines that I have stopped using them. I don't know if this is anything to do with the wobble or something else.

I have a wasr that wobbles with steel commie mags, but no wobble with a poly tapco. It is a century model

Henderson Defense sells CAI WASRs that they've certified to be free of the issues which *some* CAI guns have. If you're looking to mail-order, that's the route I'd take.
