I'm considering purchasing a Century Arms Wasr 10 from Dunham's Sports. I know there have been issues with this rifle in the past like, canted front sights, trigger slap, magazine wobble, etc. My question is have these issues been addressed/corrected by Century Arms? Is the Romanian Wasr 10 a good buy?

Check the rifle out and if it's good, buy it. It's funny that I see this thread. I've been stopping at Dunhams every now and then over the past couple of years, looking for a good WASR as I never owned that particular AK variant. Well, today, I finally found that rifle and bought it. The fit and finish is excellent and everything on it is straight as can be. Now, don't get me wrong, it's not *that* hard to find a good one, but I am really picky since I didn't really need one, but rather, wanted one. During my scavenging, I found a lot of nice WASRs, but was never tempted to buy until today.

I even put one on layaway (I used layaway because I wanted to check the other Dunhams 30 miles away to see if they had anything better) that I could have purchased for $419.00 a few months back, but got my money back because I was not completely satisfied. Now, I am much happier and the rifle I got today was only $450.00... well worth the extra 30 bucks.

All of that said, if you are patient and picky, you can certainly get a very nice example of the Romanian AK variant.

I have one I bought 3 years ago. It is a straight shooter, never had to adjust the sights. I have shot about 2000 rounds of different makes throught it and the various mags I have for the gun and never had any malfunctions.
I have had 2 ARs over the years and sold them, but this gun is a keeper.

no these issues have not been corrected or addressed by century. it is a hit or miss problem, the only way to know for certain is to be able to pick one up in the store and fondle it. so are horrible, some are perfect, in my experience they have all been closer to the H end and FAR from the P end. I just don't bother with AKs anymore but that's just me. hurry up and go find a good one, they'll double in price by november.

My advice is to buy it through AIM Surplus. They seem to inspect everything they get and send the bad ones back. Never had a bum gun through them.

The newer WASR's DO seem better. Yeah, the finish isn't great, but the one I had was accurate and the sights were dead on.

I bought one, although customized a few years ago. It's a great rifle, tack driver to 100 yards and good for 300. No malfunctions ever. Very reliable.

And I concur, the price will go up by fall.

They are a good buy if you can put your hands on one. Hold the rifle with the butt approximately waist level and against your stomach and look at the alignment of the reciever, gas block and front sight base. Everything should line up. On some speciments you may see the gas block is canted.

As for mag wobble, you will have this. The older non converted SAR series had dimples on the magwell to help alleviate wobble. You will also notice these dimples or dished out indentations on other AK type rifles. The WSAR series are converted from single stack models and are lacking this, this the mag wobble. There is also a chance you may have to enlarge or clean up the mag well a bit with a file to allow certain magazines to fit.

Trigger slap isn't as prevalent as it was before due to the G series American made trigger.

You can expect the prices to go up today due to the shooting.

Oh yes, I had to dremel out the mag well a little so a couple of my mags would fit.

They will most likely STAY up as well. No one vying for that seat in the white house is a fan of guns. Let's hope they're too busy with healthcare reform and immigration to remember us.

Expectations? You can apply that mindset to any firearm, if you don't really care for it in the first place. I know there is a look down attitude on WASR's
I horse traded for my WASR single stack around 5 years ago at the LGS, finally got the urge to try an Ak variant. Goes bang every time, hit my center mass targets out at 200 yards, everything is straight on it. AK's were never designed to be a tack driver, I know folks like to rework them to perform better.
But for an off the shelf rifle, they are a good are value for rugged type rifle.

If you're buying a new build rifle Century will fix any problems within a year. I bought a Tantal in Feb that had canted sights; they fixed it for free and actually did some upgrade work as well. I'll buy century products with confidence going forward.

Well put sir.

Yeah.... IF. A lot of people got screwed by Century on those Tantals because the barrels were way out of spec. Century would not replace the barrels (even though the customer only had it for a week) because the rifles were older than a year. Century's warranty starts when the rifle leaves the factory. Any business that would do this is a bad business, simple as that.

However, Century does not build the WASR. They only do the compliance work and cut out the mag well for it to accept double-stack mags.
