Ok. I have been learning as much as I can about the ak platform. I have a question maybe someone can answer. Century arms imports weapons. Why isn't a zastava considered a WASR? I know what WASR stands for. I know Serbia isn't on the list of the arrangement. And since they are not one of the countries listed, how can they import weapons? Why is a Romanian akm a WASR and any other imported AKM just another AKM. Part kit built AKM's do not apply to this conversation. I'm talking imported sporting rifles. Thank you

Just an idea, nothing to back it up, but maybe they only attach the WASR name to the Romania AKs. If they called any AK pattern rifle that comes from the countries in the arrangement a "WASR" , then consumers may get confused. I know that if I order a WASR , it is of Romanian origin. I would be pissed if I ordered a WASR and got a zastava.

WASR is not a nice word to some AK folks. It could just be that there have been more Romanians imported than the other models, so they crowned it as WASR.

I haven't been able to find evidence of this, but I think the Romanians named their export rifles WASR to emphasize two points: they comply with the arrangement and they are semi auto. Serbia isn't a party to the arrangement, so the zastava models just have to comply with US federal law and regulations to be imported.

Yea but century puts WASR on the rifle. It's not done by the cuigar factory (forgive any spelling mistakes). I'm glad this wasnt an obvious stupid question. All WASR's are Romanian and only CAI imports them. I still don't under stand why this is. all imported sporting rifles should fall under the W.A. Otherwise, why would there be one. And 10/63 or GP 10/63 defines the model of the rifle (General Purpose 10 round magazine imported/'Romanian design of 1963). I'm just going to get redundant if I continue. And believe me I have spent many hours reading about AKM's, RPK's and SAR's. I don't like asking questions unless I have exhausted all other sources. Most people offer opinion and speculation more than actual evidence. But at this point I'll take what I can get!
