I was down playing with my 223 A-Bolt today and just for the hell of it I loaded up some rounds with a full case compressed loading of WC-860 over a 55 grain FMJ and was very surprised to see it worked well. IMR-4831 was much slower in compression.

Don't know how fast it is but sounded right and seemed quick.....and gave 1 1'2" 10 shot groups. Think I play with it a bit more and may try some IMR-7383 next just for fun.

Ball c and 2230 shoot half this size but what the hell it fun to play with. Tom

Are you sure you are using WC860? That is one of the slowest powders used by the military. How did you get enough of it in the case to get the bullet out of the barrel?

Seriously, WC860 is a 50 Cal powder, the only current slower powders WC870 and WC872 are for the 20mm cannon rounds.

I use WC860 in 7mm Rem. magnum, 300 Win magnum, and .338 Win magnum, and it's actually too slow burning for all of these. It works, but velocities are considerably lower than other, faster burning powders. It would be interesting to see chronograph readings of your .223 loads. I'd bet they are around 1500 to 1800 fps., and I bet you're spewing out a lot of unburned powder. Watch out for squibs.....
