Anyone use this powder?

What lot do you have and what do you use for load data?

The lot I have is supposed to load like AA#9 but is more like 2400.

Just curious. I load it in my heavy hunting rounds and it is very accurate. Not only in 44mag but 357mag as well.

My son took a Pennsylvanian deer with it several years ago with his Marlin 1894 Cowboy. 158gr LSWC doing somewhere in the neighborhood of 1700fps out of the 20" barrel!

Nice short distance gun/bullet combo!
:what:

I picked up a jug a few years back from Jeff @ GIBrass. I've been treating it like H110 in 44mag and 30carb.

These are the guys that have it all figured out.

You need to acquaint yourself with the particular lot number. I have a metric butt-load of WC820 that is reputed to load like AA#9, but the chappie I got it from was loading his monster .45 Colt and .45 Casull ammo with the same powder, but using H110 load data. When I pointed out that his lot of powder was ~ 10% faster than he figured on, he paled a bit.

Hutch,
I'm one of those guys too! Only I have a different handle over there.

This is one of the best powders available for the 44mag. I will never use 8lbs of it though in this lifetime. I just don't shoot that much full power stuff. Now, that being said, I do have some self defense loads for the M625 45ACP using this powder with a 252gr Home cast SWC!

I think one of the most attractive parts about using a MILSURP powder is it's kind of nostalgic.

I have some of the hi-tech wc-820 bought 4-5 years ago. It's faster than h-110 or 296 that it was supposed to be loaded as. I use AA #9 data, it works well where #9 would otherwise be used. One problem is it does not have a flash inhibitor, so it's colorful even in full sunlight!

My last use was for my 7.62 X 25 loads. A fellow shooter remarked about the balls-O-fire it was throwing. I said so what, as long as I don't shoot in tall dry grass, I'll be alright. ;)

Snuffy,
I have had the exact opposite with the powder I have. It has next to no flash when loaded at the upper end of the data. My M629 Classic with a 5"bbl doesn't exhibit any kind of muzzle flash to speak of. Nothing like H110 that's for sure! Out of the Handi-Rifle there is none at all.

The lot I have is a little faster than H110 or AAC #9, it is more like 2400. Great powder for magnum pistol loads, originally used in .30 carbine ammo.
