We all make jokes about "tragic boating accidents" but this article makes me wonder if the people of Connecticut just set the gold standard for it.

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/20...weapons-large-capacity-magazine-registration/

“Gun owners in Connecticut registered about 50,000 assault rifles before the Jan. 1 deadline, state public safety officials reported Friday as they drew close to completing the task of processing reams of related paperwork,” ctnewsjunkie.com reports. “That rough estimate comes more than two weeks after the deadline to register banned rifles and ammunition magazines — steps required by last year’s gun control legislation passed in response to the Sandy Hook shooting.” Reader CTsheepdog wonders . . .

“How is that there were 50,000 rifles registered versus less than 40,000 LCM’s [large capacity magazines] declared? Second, how do we reconcile 50,000 rifles against an official state analyst group suggesting over 370,000 rifles back in April 2011? And the same report estimated well over 1 million LCMs in CT back in early 2011. [Click here to read.] Either the Department of Emergency and Public Protections initial hand-count estimate is off by a factor of 10X or more, OR there is MASSIVE noncompliance going on in CT right now.”

In either case, it’s only a matter of time before confiscation begins. Then what?

I've read threads here about how many mags should a person have for his AR. I don't remember anyone ever suggesting 0.8. :)

Maybe some of the folks in Conn. like to use their AR15's as 1-shot rifles without a mag at all.
The pressure of the next round in the mag pressing up into the bottom of the bolt may hinder accuracy. The good people of Connecticut have educated themselves on the matter and taken corrective measures.

A lot of folks are stashing them away rather than risk confiscation, in my opinion.
The act of going door to door will suck up such man power that I doubt it'll happen in my life time, but who really knows? The cost alone will be crazy and I suspect there will eventually be lawyers and lawsuits to be happening if confiscation starts to happen. Or at least I hope! The registration should be challenged now! If you have at least 50,000 folks comply how many more could you get on petition?
Luckily I do not live in Connecticut..If I did I be working on it.

Be safe

I wonder what will happen when they have another shooting… On the other hand, every year they don't have a shooting they are going to say it was a direct effect of their new legislation.

When there are no shootings, it is a result of their legislation, and they should continue to forge ahead with more common sense legislation. When there are shootings, they clearly failed to do enough, and must forge ahead with more common sense legislation.

Never has there been a more politically correct statement and I don't mean PC. I mean true in the eyes of politicians.

I am truly appalled that SCOTUS allows this to happen. Appalled but not overly surprised.

There is a very large lake not too far from here and that was where the accident happened...:banghead:

I just hope they buried their Pmags before the ground froze...... no fun trying to dig a hole in January in CT.

And what about handgun mags

Since the majority of modern semi-auto handguns have a standard magazine capacity of more than 10 rounds, even assuming 1 per firearm (handgun or long gun) there should be a much higher number of mags registered than "assault rifles".

For those that think this stuff "isn't funny" what's supposed to be funny about boating accident? Maybe "I" need to grow a sense of humor. Or somebody does anyway.

Maybe its just a misunderstanding. The people want to be compliant with the law, but not many folks have periodicals about capacity issues to bring forth for registration. Perhaps if they called them clips....

I just thought of a way to make a million dollars... invent floaties for firearms.
Don't even think about it. If you bring out a working prototype, California will start mandating them on all firearms, to prevent tragic boating accidents.

careful, the last time I posted in a boating accident thread I received an infraction for it.
No idea what you said, but I'm guessing admin around here doesn't look too kindly on people filing false police reports about lost firearms. That is still a crime, as much as some people like to joke about it.
