Weapon of choice for deer hunting in a field?

Thats a bummer for sure, but this year I got cut down to 2 buck tags and it sure did make me be more selective about what I shot, buck wise.

My part of the country... No.E. GA, Blue Ridge Mountains... we only get 2 bucks and 10 does. Buckwise, one of those has to have 4pts 1" or longer on one side. The other buck, anything goes. I could've had my "anything goes" buck anytime up through the first week in December as that's the last I saw of these two nice two year olds... one was a 3pt and the other was a mid-size 5pt and they'd be good to keep in the gene pool... if they got sense, went nocturnal, and made it. I was hoping to see something 4Xsomething first anyway. Thing is, around here most of the neighborhood don't seem to get as many hunting days as I do, so they're more into shooting anything with visible antlers. If I'm gonna get my deer this year, I'll hafta go to some relatives in Alabama... season there goes to Jan.31.

My winchester model 70 ss w/BOSS 7 mm mag 140 gr. ballistic tips reloads.Shoots flat and shoots 3/4 groups at 100 yards everytime.

Go with the 7.62

I have taken numerous deer with .223, 22 mag, and even 22LR... The LR is deemed to under 50yds and a eye shot, Mag will go out to 100 or so with the same shot, and the 223 has taken them at 200yds with a brain shot... If your accurate you could probably even take out a bear although i wouldnt chance it unless i was packing something bigger incase he gets idgitated

mustanger98 , I hunted in Wilkes and Taliferio Counties back in the early 90's on lease land. Killed a few deer but I never got any big bucks.

I have used .223 to drop my biggest buck ever at just over 300yd, heart and lung shot. I'll use it to 400 if the shot presents itself, past that, I'll use my
.243
