I need a light to mount on my AR/RAS for camping and the great outdoors.

I looked around and the more I look, the more confusing it seems. Sportsman's guide has the rechargeable 500 Lumen Xenon light, There are LED lights, there are the brand name Surefires that are rated in Watts, and there is the $250 Rico Alpha and the Sig Sauer Stop Light.

What's your opinion on weapons mounted lights?

Surefire lights are an expensive option, but they will put up with far more abuse than other products.

500 lumen flashlights are useful for lighting up alleys, looking for wanted felons running around one's apartment complex, and observing the local nightlife. You want at least 200 lumens to see coyotes well enough to hit them at 100 yds. For short range self defense a 60 lumen light will work fine.

The new LED lights have amazing output and impressive run times, and I intend to upgrade as I get the funding.

Try candlepowerforums if you want more technical data.

Hope that helps.
