Weapons Stolen From Utah County Sheriff's Truck

Apr 24, 2007

(KUTV) LEHI [Utah] A Utah County Sheriff's pickup was broken into overnight and the thief got away with several items including an assault rifle and high-power shotgun.

The robbery occurred sometime between the hours of midnight and 7 a.m. outside an officer's Lehi home.

Officers say having the weapons out on the street is of great concern.

"They're restricted, for law enforcement use only. One of them was a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun with a 14-inch barrel. The other was an assault rifle, a G36 H & K," said Lehi Police Sgt. Jeff Swenson.

Other items taken from the truck included a laptop computer, a first aid kit, spike strips, a fingerprint kit, a flashlight, binoculars, gas cards, portable breathalyzer testing equipment and a camera.

Those responsible could face felony and federal charges if caught.

A reward for information about the burglary has been offered. Anyone with information should contact Lehi police or the Utah County Sheriff's Office.

This happened in the deputy's driveway as he slept in the house just feet away. They actually unbolted the electric rack that the shotgun locked into and apparently took it too.

Wow, that sucks but those are some nice firearms!
I hope he's the type of Sheriff that will sign form 4's and not the "only I can have them" type.
At least they were locked up, although who knows how that rack was mounted (sheet metal screws? :p )

Arrest Made In Burglary of Sheriff's Truck

Apr 27, 2007

LEHI [Utah] A Utah County man has been arrested in connection with the burglarizing of a deputy's vehicle this week.

However, officers are still looking for a police-issued shotgun and rifle that were apparently taken from the truck.

Lehi police say 29-year-old Quinn Hampton was arrested at his home in Pleasant Grove on Wednesday after police searched his car and found methamphetamine, heroin and several missing items from the deputy's pickup. However, officers say they did not find the shotgun and assault rifle.

Hampton was then booked into jail for investigation of drug and theft charges.

Detectives believe others may also be connected to the burglary and missing weapons.

How many situations like this must occur before our legislators come to their senses and ban firearms for sherrif's deputies and other law enforcement officers. ;)
