Hey all, just wondering if anyone could give me some insight on the p series mounts. i originally intended to buy the nikon p-223 3x32 scope with the p series mounts for my ar-15 and...well its a long story...so i ended up with buying the p series mounts and i have a weaver v3 1-3x20 scope on the way instead of the p-223.

just wondering if anyone knows if these mounts will work with the weaver and if the front sight post on my ar-15 is going to get in the way of the sight picture (im not worried if its in the sight picture a bit just if it actually gets in the way of the crosshairs)

any ideas appreciated,

p.s. I have not yet opend the p mounts so i can probably still return them to amazon, if anyone has any suggestions for a mount for the weaver i would like to know, though im trying to stay around the $50 range if possible...i would kind of perfer just using the p mounts cuz i already have them and dont want to go through the trouble of returning them and buying new ones.

Thanks.

No reason the mount wouldn't work that I can think of.

A 1" scope is a 1" scope.

You may be able to see the front sight at 1x, but it will probably just be a ghost image at 3x.

Scopes usually can't focus on things that close, so you can't see them clearly, if at all.

thanks for the reply. this is the first scope im buying so i dont know much. is it safe to assume that most every mount out there would all put the scope at the same height level when mounted on a flat top reciever with no risers or anything?

im just worried about the crosshairs actually being blocked by the front sight post.

A proper mount for an AR-15 flat-top will mount the scope centerline approximately 2 1/2" above the bore line, regardless of who makes it.

That is where the crosshairs need to be to see through the scope.

You do not want to try to raise the scope above the front sight, as it will be too high to get a proper cheek weld on the stock when you go to use it.

I think you are worrying too much.
Put the mount and scope on the rifle and see what you see, or don't see.

What are P series mounts??
I ask this because I am strongly considering buying an AR15 this year and am starting to do a lot of research on them and sighting systems.
I have considered buying a small regular scope such as a Nitrex 1x5x32 made by Weaver that is marked down at Natchez and possibly a couple of others.
Still trying to get a look at a red dot or Holograph set up as I dont know anything at all about them except the price is super high.
There is a lot of other factors such as eye relief and of course mounts and rings to consider as well.

mounted up the weaver on the p series mounts and took the ar to the range today. the mounts seem to work just fine like you said they would. at 1x the front sight post is there of course and at 3x for the most part its gone unless you look at an angle then the ghost image will creep up.

i dont have the experience to really comment on the quality of the mounts but they seem pretty good from an amateurs point of view...they are cheap only about $50 and made in the USA which is a +.

all in all im satisfied with both the weaver v3 and p-series mounts, will have to go to the range again to zero in the weaver better was hitting the 200 meter plate pretty consistantly but i dont think its perfect yet.
