I'm looking at buying a WG Army Model break-top.

Markings are: Side of top strap: WG ARMY MODEL.

sideplate in front of cylinder: 455/476

bottom of sideplate: Webley Patents (the lettering is arched)

barrel or sideplate (memory not serving me) England

opposite side (serial number?) 12XXX

What I cannot find is anything about what MK it is. Do the various MKs have that stamped somewhere or is it based on serial number?

Thank you.

As best I understand it the Webley Green was not adopted by the British Army and therefore is not a "MK" anything. It is a commercial revolver with its own specs over a series of variations, "Army" model designation on that one notwithstanding. Probably intended for private purchase by officers who could carry anything that shot the service cartridges.
The military Mk I through Mk VI are just plain Webleys or Webley & Scotts. I don't know when Mr Green got out of the picture, but have not seen a W.G. model later than 1896. A friend has a W.G. Target that is a jewel of a revolver, nicer fit and finish than any other Webley I have seen but a commercial W.S. Target.
