Weekend Auction in America's Dairyland

Went to a auction in DeForest, WI, this weekend. Mostly household stuff, but a some long guns and ammo. I was bidder 147 and one of the last to arrive. There was maybe 20 guys that showed any interest in the firearms.

Everything went higher than I thought it would.

Browning Auto 22 LR, 98% -- $750
Winchester M94 .30-30, pre '63, 85% -- $650
Browning Humpback 12 ga, 85% -- $700
Remington M740, .30-06, 85% -- $600
Japanese Ariska, nicely bubba'd, Williams peeps, high comb stock w/10 layers of shellac -- $450
Remington M514 bolt action .22 LR 85% -- $200 (probably the only good deal)​

They were all well cared for but had some mileage on them. None were abused or rusted. No boxes or cases for any of them. I could be off on some of the prices, the Auto 22 and M94 for the only two I was really interested in.

(1) 500 rd case of Remington .22 LR, same era -- $70 for the brick.
Various boxes of "vintage" .30-30 and .30-06 -- all sold for more than retail​

I would of liked to buy some .22 ammo, but not at those prices. Still seems to high, for me. The only good deal was on .50 cal ammo cans. Most were okay. A few had some minor rust. There were like 10 or 12 and they all sold together as a lot for $8 per box.

Sounds like the typical farm auctions around here. People that don't know the value of an item get caught up in the excitement and overpay big time for guns. Deals can be had from time to time, but hardly ever on guns.
The last one I went to me and another guy were bidding on choice of a Remington 700 BDL .223 with a Leupold scope, and a Remington 710 .270 with a Tasco. I bowed out at $400, since I had no need for either one, but would have bought the 700 at a good price. Imagine my surprise when the other guy picked the 710 with his high bid of $425. The auctioneer started the bidding for the 700 at $200, and I was the only bid.

Those prices are in line with Colorado markets....but, people are paying it!

Blackhawk for $250

I went to an auction about 10 days ago. There were two pistols and 2 rifles and tons of ammo and reloading stuff.
I bought the Ruger Blackhawk for $250. It only had a tiny bit of holster wear at the muzzle, but otherwise a cherry piece. The rifles went for big money.
I figure that lack of bidding was due to the lack of other CPL carriers in the crowd.

Most local gun/ammo auctions are standing room only and the bids get really stupid. i haven't seen a bargain in years.
