Gun Trading has landed me a Taurus M905 9mm today....

I think it will be a neat little CC package IMO. It is the perfect mate to the M85 Ultralite I scored earlier last week.

Hopefully I will get out to the range tomorrow or early in the coming week, so I have not scored shooting it yet.

I have the thought that it could have a little mean recoil to it....I also can only imagine the Model 85 Ultralite .38 as well will have a little snap to it as light as it is.

Congrats. Hopefully you got a good one. I had a 905IB (Instant Backup) for a while, great idea, poor execution. It would bind up horribly and be rendered all but useless.
I don't think the recoil is bad, they weigh something like 22oz and that helps to absorb some of it but works against it for carry. Let us know how yours works out for you.

I was just looking at all the past 9mm revolvers, and there are some other threads regarding them on THR.

I just found this place that has speedloaders for the SP101, does anyone have a SP101 and know if the spacing is same as the 905?

I dont see that you can use the stellar clips but you could use it for second load! Use Stellar clip on carry load and carry a speedloader for second load if needed. If one found a good ammo that did not stick after firing you would be good to go as the clips are not required for shooting just ejecting spent cases.

And The Old S&W 547 did not even use clips at all.

Here are some nice speedloaders for the SP101

Also 905I and M905B2

I seen relative information on different internet sites regarding timing issues with it looks to be mostly the 905I....?

I went to Taurus website and it appears now that they only hae 2 models available...The 905B2 and 905SS2 and all the " I " series and concealed hammer series have been discontinued.

Could be a coincidence?

I have a 905 as well and I must have got a good one! Check out Matt Delfatti Leather, he has "loaded moon clip holders" that work great for front pocket carry and hold the rounds stable and secure.

Thanks ^ I was just shopping gun leather for the 905...

He makes some Beautiful Leather! I love that 2 tone style he has going there....Looks like he is full up but I am shooting him an email anyway. and those speed loaders look cool.

He keeps the Loaded moon clip carriers in stock, all though they are a little spendy ($30). They are a kydex bottom with a steel post covered in rubber, with the rounds already in the moon clips they just kinda snap in to the carrier, but come out easily when needed. They are way shorter that most speedloaders, so thats a plus.

I have M905IB. Stellar clips are not "just cartridge holders". 9mm rounds w/o clip to secure them, BOUNCE BACK IN RECOIL against hammer, as do the OTHER cartridges 'during the BANG'. Stellar clips are also useful in the ejecting of spent casings, otherwise, they get stuck, since the ejection star does NOT fit under the casing lip, since it is an unrimmed casing design. . BTDT! Had to use multi-tool to pry casings out of cylinder. A 'good Murphy moment', in the life of a participating CCW'er, NOT! Shoots well enough to have qual'd for CHL class. Speedloaders for J-frames are NOT made to hold 9mm cartridges. As to felt recoil in the hand? You have a 2-inch barrel and cylinder matching up through a forcing cone that do not move, as the slide action moves on a semi-auto pistol. 9mm was traditionally, (I think), designed for a 4-inch barrel, with enough force to move the slide action, which has a measured tension srping of 13 pounds resistance, or more. You are holding 22 ounces of non-moving metal. That is 1-pound, 6-ounces. Do you think that there 'just might be' a bit of recoil felt in your hand? Yes, Virginia, there is. When you get to the last cartridge in a box of 50, and with no gloves to help ... you are done for the day. And the M905Ib is --NOT--, repeat --NOT--, rated or designed for ANY PLUS-P 9mm AT ALL!!!. You can shoot heavy bullets, i.e., 147-grain weight factory loads, but NO Plus-p. Considering that the M905 frame resemble a Charter Arms 'Pug' hammerless design, the grips are a bit low in the hand. My wake up moment was trying to load a stellar clip that, I thought, was holding on to the cartridges tightly, but as I loaded the revolver, one or two cartridges fell off the clip! Another good 'Murphy moment'! I've since bought a M850 CIA in .38 special.

Thanks ^ I did relaize about the use of stellar clips....

however it does appear that there is available speed loaders for the 905 with utilization of half moon clips, which replace the stellars and function in the speed loader.

I will prove or disprove the above as I have ordered them!....??

As far as recoil...I expect it to be snappy, however very controllable!
Dont mind my hand hurtin after a 50-100 rounds at the range either and absolutely do not use ANY Plus P stuff in anything......

If I wanted more out a firearm!, I would not buy smaller hoping to make it up with HOT ammunition! Silly to me! (MO)....:scrutiny:

If I wanted .357 ballistics out of a .38/9mm.....I would have just bought a .357 to begin with!

End result in my thoughts of 905 for CC was the fact that it gave me 9mm in small package..very concealable....cheap to practice with, on par accuracy, and confident that in Self Defense/Home Defense I feel 5 rounds are sufficient!

I dont think I will need to reload and shoot at bad guy until my hand hurts!

Just sayin!........

Taurus' "stellar" clips are anything but. They're cheesy and don't hold the cartridges well at all. Check with Ranch Products, they were making S&W 940-style moonclips to fit the Taurus, they work 100% better.

I called Ranch Products today as per WC145's post about their Taurus specific moon clips.
Man, talk about good service! The nice lady assured me that there is a difference between the 905 and the S&W640 moonclips, and that she would send a free sample out to test in my pistol as well as a catalog. Great place! I can't wait to try it out, as the Taurus clips are kinda chinseee.

I received the freebee tester moonclip from Ranch Products for my 905. I had to slightly buff the inside edges that touched the extractor star because it bound a little at first. After a slight touch with the grinding wheel they fit perfect and are a huge improvement over the Taurus Stellar clips the revolver came with.
I took the 1 moonclip and shot and reloaded it through 50 rounds, and it preformed awesome and even seemed to make the revolver opperate smoother. After reloading it 10 times it still is perfectly straight and retains the rounds nicely while still being able toget the empties out without a big struggle.
I am very pleased and will be ordering many more tomorrow!

Glad the Ranch moonclip worked for you. If you get a good example of the 905 then the factory stellar clips are the weak link. You should be good to go now.

I must have got a good one, nice and tight with a sweet trigger! I agree that if the revolver is good, the Stellar Clips are by far the weak link. Thanks so much for the tip, it really makes the difference.

You're lucky. I had a 905IB (Instant Backup), bobbed hammer, DAO, short frame and cylinder. Great idea, poor execution. It was heavy for it's size, the assembly and fit was shoddy - the cylinder bound against the forcing cone, and after shooting a couple of cylinders full it would lock up. On the plus side the blueing was really nice. Sometimes Taurus gets it right, I had an 850CIA that was a terrific gun, but it doesn't happen often enough for me to trust them.
