Back in the early to mid 1990's there were tons of 686, 681, 581 and 586 Smith and Wesson's on the used market - all trade in's from Police Depts. I've always liked a good revolver and even in my early 20's I knew these were worth keeping forever but youth got the better of me. I bought, traded and sold a few of these fine guns during those years and finally when there were no more, I really regreted not having kept any.

In my area of Northern VA there have been alot of Smith and Wesson Model 10, 64 and 15's traded in from local armed guard companies. A few LGS have them and they are pretty cheap. If your a good customer they usually let you hand pick to a reasonable degree. Now rapidly nearing 40yrs old I am definatly older and wiser in my ways. In the past 2yrs I've bought a 15-7, then a 10-14 and then a 10-11. Very happy with all of them - but a 38 is no where near a 357.

Yesterday I found what I've been hoping for.

66-4. RB, No Lock, forged parts and FP is on the hammer..... Most are light exterior scratches like mine but mech perfect and from day one they have only shot with 38spl ammo. Cost was $385.00 -

Sorry the Kim Ahrends Combat Grips were already mine.... These come with Uncle Mikes Rubber grips.

Earlier this week I PM'd the dealer info to a few local guys that have turned me on to local deals as a thank you. If you in the Northern VA area and would like one PM me and I'll give you the 411.

I'll have it at the range tomorrow!!

Don't ask me how this 65-2 trade in marked Mass State Police ended up in Michigan, just glad it did.
