This Mossy will be primarily used for range/HD purposes. I have considered other brands (yes...even the 870), but am intrigued by this particular model due to the mag capacity and various "features" supposedly missing from the usual 500/590 series shotguns. Even though I currently own a Benelli, I prefer to keep it nice and would really rather put the daily wear/tear on something else.

Anyway, below is a pic and a brief description which includes a quote from a recent article I read concerning Mossbergs. So..thoughts?

Mossberg 590 Special Purpose - 9 shot
12 Gauge, 20" Heavy-Walled Barrel/Matte Blue Finish
Black Synthetic Stock, Ghost Ring Sights
Item (model)# 51663

One model sold as Model 590 (catalog item 51663) is technically a 590A1, as it uses the heavy barrel and military trigger group, but unlike models designated 590A1 it is sold on the civilian market.

I think it sells for around $450 or so...

They are hard to find right now and will be for a while. Have you handled one. They are heavy and the length of pull is long. The standard 590 with GRS would be a better choice. They cost & weight less. They are well made.

Mossberg is coming out with a 590 SPX that has the nicer LPA GRS.

I havent handled one yet. In regards to LOP, Im running into that same problem with my Benelli. Unfortunately, given the type of stock I am using, changing this has proven problematic and frankly, too expensive to worry about. But, its something I can live with and honestly, I am still able to shoot well with this thing regardless. Even with a generous LOP on this Mossy, I feel that this would be much easier to "dial in" vs my current rig.

Anyway, I will certainly look into the other options you have mentioned (the SPX does look sweet, but expensive). I just like this model given certain features I havent found on other "generic" Mossbergs.

Thanks for the reply...

You can put a shorter stock on the 590.
