Well it was bound to happen, I made my own powder HP335-38!!

That sort of thing tends to frighten the horses!

Glad he wasn't hurt more severely. The gun manufacturers have done a marvelous job of saving us from ourselves! :)

A lesson for us all...CZECH, double check, and check again!

Very sad to see that happen and very sorry he was injured. That finger did not look good. Blood dosen't bother me but neither the hand nor the rifle are pretty pictures, however I did print them off and stuck them over my reloading bench to remind me that mistakes can be very very bad.

I hope his hand healed up ok.

A large charges of Titegoup in a rifle sure was a bad thing.
Probably only a couple powders out there that could might have been worse.

This may sound crazy, but it would seem that it would not be that much trouble for powder compainies to use two different color plastics for pistol/shutgin powders and rifle powers. Make the pitol/rifle yellow or red?
I do know that it would double thier inventory of containers so there would be a cost involved. Cost/benefit for them. Of course if there are no mistakes made there is no benefit so I can see why they don't, but still it might have a benefit from a marketing stand point.

Hhmm time for a poll.

Thanks for pics. One can never be tooooo careful.
If lucky enough to survive, balance of powder makes very expensive fertilzer. I'm careful b/c I'm too tight to buy a $1500 bag of fertilizer. Haha

Just doing my final homework before heading out to load some .223.

H335 and Titegroup look a lot alike in the bottles. I have taped a 9mm bullet and a .223 bullet to the lids of the containers because Murphy is a permanent resident in our house. I constantly remind myself to never take the lids off of two kinds of powder at the same time.

Losing a rifle like that would ruin my day. Doing that to my right hand would ruin lots of days.

How I keep up with what's in the Lyman 55. And Dillon

Don't beat yourself up too badly Rule3, I've done that a time or two over the last 30 some years also. The worst part, it's usually a nice new jug of powder I've ruined.

Why can't it ever happen with two powders that are compatible, like maybe 296 and H110, something that won't make a hill of beans difference? No, it's always two completely different grades of powder. If I did it with a couple of powders that might share an almost identical charge table, though published velocity estimates might be slightly different, I think I would be tempted to give the new blend a try.

It's great that you caught it in time, but sad that two excellent powders got ruined.

As I've aged, I find myself not having the memory that I used to and because of that I tend to check and re-check anything at my bench before loading. And one rule I make sure of, is only one powder on the bench at any time.

I agree with respect to identical-looking containers being a potential problem, not to mention different manufacturers having identical numbers for powders ("Let's see... that was Accurate 4064. Yep. Or was it IMR 4064? Yep. NOPE!!!"). My kegs of AA #5, 7 and 9 do look very similar to me, for example. Among others I have in stock... I'm thinking of ways to provide more safeguards than I already have in place so I don't become a KA-BOOM statistic.

You just CANNOT be excessively safe.

Think harder. Surely we can still find a way to blame your wife here, dont you think Rule..?

I decided to run that TG KB load through QuickLOAD- calculated PSI was in the 240,000± range.

That guy is VERY fortunate to be alive IMO.

All the more reason to check, double-check and triple-check in this hobby.

That said, I will +1 the others in that it was a good thing you caught the snafu when you did.

Only one bottle of powder on the bench at one time. The rest stays in the cabinet. If only one is out this can't happen. And never leave powder in a measure. These two simple steps prevent this from happening.

I only get the powder out of storage locker for the caliber I'm loading. The loads along with caliber, bullet weight and grains marked on the jug. Done loading, it goes back into the jug and storage locker.

No worries now you can shoot pistol rounds through your rifle and rifle rounds through your pistol.
Best bet is fertilize the lawn.
