Well, looks like I'm going to jump on the wagon.

Looks like I'm going gun shopping Friday morning. A shop about an hour or so from here is closing down at the end of the year. It's just one old guy running it out of a room in his house and he's getting along in years. Closing things out and getting rid of as much as he can. Prices were good to start with, and with closeout deals, hey, might as well. I was just informed earlier today that I'm getting $1500 that I had forgotten I was owed too, so I've got some money to drop in addition to what I was previously planning on.

So, figure $1200 or so. I'm hoping to walk out with 3 new pieces. Not even sure what the guy's got left in stock, and I'm not too picky, but I'm thinking:
- Ruger SP101, 2.25" barrel, .357 magnum.
- Ruger GP100, 4" barrel (do they make a 5") .357 magnum.
- .22LR revolver (I learned my lesson with autos -- buy a .22!) Just not sure what's out there with these. Probably going to be another Ruger.

I'm tempted to make the snubby a S&W Airlight of some kind, for CCW purposes, but I'm not so sure it's a good idea to start out with such a light weight gun.

For $1200 or so (I could go higher if need be) what would -YOU- suggest for a "welcome to the world of wheelguns" person? I definately want a snubby in either .357 or .38 special as my ultra-light KelTec P3AT leaves me less than confident (reliability issues... not a big deal really, I think a revolver would make a better gun than an auto in that role anyway).

I've already got 6 auto loaders in the stable (KT P3AT, CZ-75B (9mm), CZ RAMI (.40), Glock 23, Glock 21, Walther P22) -- so I'm just looking for wheelguns to fill in any gaps I might be missing. Rounding it all out, but this time with some good old fashioned wheelguns.

You could try a Smith and Wesson airweight, like a 642.They are rated for up +p and they are not as light as the airlites.Rugers are heavier but if your gonna take it to the range it will help out some.If your looking for something "fun" to buy I picked up a bird's head ruger single six in .32 mag and a 4" sp in the same caliber.

I would buy anything in a K frame since S&W is discontinuing them, hold on to them for awhile, then sell a few for a tasty profit when a new project comes along.

Good shopping,
Rob

I would buy as many SW Performance Center revolvers as I could. A 38/357 is a must have. The 625 is on my short list. Feeling adventurous? Go for a 500 Magnum!

What a let-down (sorta) -- the regular customes have pretty much cleaned him out at this point!

The -only- .22LR revolver he had was a Taurus 94 9 shot deal. The trigger on this thing in DA pull seems horrid to me, but I bought it anyway.

The -only- .357 snubby he had was a Rossi -- but I've heard that they might be okay so I picked that up too. There was a 686 there, but I really wanted a small framed revolver. The S&W trigger was soooo much sweeter than the Rossi trigger (duh!) but in the end I went with the smaller one.

Didn't have a single Ruger on hand anymore either.

OT: But I nabbed a KelTec Sub 2000 from him too. One extra Glock 10 round magazine for it (9mm), 50 rounds of .38spl and 50 rounds of .357.

Walked out the door just shy of $850. He yanked about $80 total off the firearms -after- I said "yeah, I'll take that one" without me even asking for a better deal.

Three new guns in one day and my first two revolvers. Not a bad day at all I'd say.

Just one yellow 4473 form and the purchase permit bunk for the state of Michigan. The multiple handgun purchase stuff is just done by the dealer and sent to the ATF without the customer's intervention. Dealer didn't even mention it to me.

LOL, I was there this morning at about 9:20 or so. I dident have much money but i did pick up a four position stock for my M4 that I picked up about an hour agao. :D
