Looks like I'm going gun shopping Friday morning. A shop about an hour or so from here is closing down at the end of the year. It's just one old guy running it out of a room in his house and he's getting along in years. Closing things out and getting rid of as much as he can. Prices were good to start with, and with closeout deals, hey, might as well. I was just informed earlier today that I'm getting $1500 that I had forgotten I was owed too, so I've got some money to drop in addition to what I was previously planning on.
So, figure $1200 or so. I'm hoping to walk out with 3 new pieces. Not even sure what the guy's got left in stock, and I'm not too picky, but I'm thinking:
- Ruger SP101, 2.25" barrel, .357 magnum.
- Ruger GP100, 4" barrel (do they make a 5") .357 magnum.
- .22LR revolver (I learned my lesson with autos -- buy a .22!) Just not sure what's out there with these. Probably going to be another Ruger.
I'm tempted to make the snubby a S&W Airlight of some kind, for CCW purposes, but I'm not so sure it's a good idea to start out with such a light weight gun.
For $1200 or so (I could go higher if need be) what would -YOU- suggest for a "welcome to the world of wheelguns" person? I definately want a snubby in either .357 or .38 special as my ultra-light KelTec P3AT leaves me less than confident (reliability issues... not a big deal really, I think a revolver would make a better gun than an auto in that role anyway).
I've already got 6 auto loaders in the stable (KT P3AT, CZ-75B (9mm), CZ RAMI (.40), Glock 23, Glock 21, Walther P22) -- so I'm just looking for wheelguns to fill in any gaps I might be missing. Rounding it all out, but this time with some good old fashioned wheelguns.
