Okay, impulse buy, I admit. But...last summer's 11-87 project didn't work out. I couldn't find an 18" barrel, and I'd have had to modify it to make the magazine tube extension work. I'd resolved to sell it (unfired by me, 90+% condition) and get an 870 pump.

Well, I was browsing my old favorite gun shop and what did I see? A Remington 870 Express Magnum for less than three hundred dollars! Like new in box! Seems the previous owner fired it, decided he didn't want it, and returned it. I couldn't tell it was used upon inspection, but nonetheless I paid $301 ou the door for it. 18" barrel, factory magazine tube extension, bead sight, plastic trigger guard and keylock safety (the latter will get replaced sometime in the future).

I passed on an 11-87 set up like that at a gun show for like $300 or so... not that I needed a semi-auto but it looked like a sweet deal.

Decent deal on a great shotgun, Here's the short list of what it needs....

Sling studs.

A pair of choke tubes, Full and IC.

Ammo.

Now go shoot it.....

Remington's 18" and 20" barrels aren't threaded for chokes... I'm sure most private gunsmith's can do it, and I know Gander Mtn will thread it for RemChoke if it's CYL or IMP CYL.

Updated!

I just replaced the Remington factory magazine tube extension with the Wilson one that I've had. What do you all think? Should I leave the Wilson on there, and make use of the (left-handed!) sling loop, or stick with the factory one and sell the Wilson part?

EDIT: I just had a thought. I might stick with the Wilson one after all. Not having the barrel clamp, it simplifies field-stripping the weapon. (You need a screwdriver to remove the barrel clamp; the Wilson unit is thick and rigid enough that a clamp is unnecessary).

EDIT AGAIN: On the other hand, the factory extension looks better. That might seal the deal right there... :D

Use the clamp. The Wilson may be heavy duty, but the mag tube is not. A boogered up mag tube is expensive to fix.

One of my extensions is an old (Early 80s) Remkit. NO probs to report.
