I was in the market for a new CCW. I usually carry Glocks by my better half is more comfortable with a manual-safety firearm around now that my oldest is around 4 yo. After my failed arguments suggesting that Glocks are just fine and it's either on my hip or in the safe, I finally caved. I guess I just HAVE to buy a new gun then...the sacrifices I make :D

After comparing a few pistols with manual safeties on line, I narrowed my choices to a 1911, the FNP-45, and the M&P 45. I would like the 1911 over all, but I didn't want to spend that much jingle. Between the FN and the M&P, I gave the nod to the FN based on reviews.

Huge. That's the best way to describe the FN-45. I read that it was big, but my Lord, it is gigantic. I could tell in looking at it in the case that it was a non-starter for CCW, and I routinely carry a G21. After holding it my thoughts were confirmed. Contrarily, I picked up the M&P and I was pleasantly surprised with the size. The M&P was decidedly smaller than the FN, and felt more like my G17 than my G21.

The only downside I could find on the M&P compared to the FN is magazine capacity, but it's obvious in the dimensions where FN puts those additional rounds. I'll gladly take the ergonomics and size of the M&P and fewer rounds over the FN.

At the end of the day, it was $550 OTD for the M&P 45 (FDE). I'm sending in my S&W rebate for 2x free mags, so all in all I think I did OK. Another sacrifice I need to make: I've been carrying Glocks for so long, I had to buy a case of 45 to fire in order to change up some muscle memory regarding the manual safety. Poor me :)

Before anyone wants to start **** because I changed my carry pistol for my wife: I love her. :)

I also looked the FN and it just didn't fit my hand. It seemed like I was going to have to take some sandpaper to the grip and smooth it out. The M&P 45 , however, fit great. I now have a 45fs and 45c ( and Glock-less for for the first time in 5 years)

M&P .45 has some of the best ergonomics of any of the poly framed .45's. The XD coming in a close second. (and it's available with a thumb safety, too)

Yea

Backed off my argument when the little lightbulb went off in my head realizing I'd end up with another pistol

Way to go!

The M&P's are just amazing... They are very refined and well designed. Their comfort is unmatched IMO and strongest point.

As for price, its a good price. Not great but they are pretty hard to get one of those eye popping deals on. They don't really put them on "Sale"... at least not the websites and stores i shop at.

Congrats

Going out to shoot my fullsize M&P .45 today---had it a month and just gettin around to it---the promo spare mags just showed up the other day---mine was $629 with Trijicon night sights factory installed.

I went out thinking I was going to get a 1911--but the $300 less price--night sights--free mags and higher mag capacity is what sold me---the Glock and FN .45's were out of the question due to the huge size of them.

Running the small back strap on my M&P.

I had an FNP-45 for a short while. I liked it, but yes, the slide is W-I-D-E. People complain about CZ-97's, but the CZ is quite a bit narrower than the FNP in the slide dimension.

My FNP had a shallow mag measured front to back and because of this, was somewhat sensitive to COAL. I also had an M&P 45 and I prefered it over the FNP, personally.

Good choice.

I love my FNP-9 but would have to agree the FNP-45 is way too big. When I held one at the gun shop, I felt like a kid holding his dad's gun.
