Just wanted some feedback from the members here before I make a trade. I own an m&p 9c wand was offered a trade for the fnp 9. I like the m&p but I like sa/da more. I own a sig 226 and love it. Is the fn similar? I know the fn is older as well. How is their cs? Thabks again! Just getting some input of the fn, and if it seems like a fair trade.

Kind of a different gun. The M&P 9C is compact and intended for carry whereas the FNP-9 is more of a duty-sized gun.

The FNP-9 is also indeed an older model - FN's current DA/SA model is the FNX, and they too seem to be rapidly embracing the striker fired guns with the FNS as well.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. Part of that is my preference for striker fired guns, but also the FNP is a discontinued model that takes different magazines than their current model. There's no telling how long parts and mags will be available.

Value-wise though, they are about in the same ballpark so it wouldn't be a terrible trade if you wanted to do it.

As a lefty, the full ambi FNX would be a very attractive option if I wanted DA/SA. For my purposes, I like the M&P 9C.

I wouldn't go for the FNP. There's a reason they sell the FNX in favor of the FNP: lower bore axis, better ergos, etc. Not to say the FNP is a bad gun, the FNX I'd just a better gun. I can vouch for the striker fired FNS being an excellent and supremely reliable handgun. It is more in line with the M&P comparison, and I like the grip on the FNS a lot more; better size and the texturing makes it nearly impossible to drop.

As for the concern of getting a recoil spring: I couldn't ever see it breaking because it's of a flattened helical construction (not a standard round wire spring), and I'm sure it's supremely reliable just like everything FN has ever made. If it were to ever break I guess you'd have to contact FN to get a new one. I'll cross that bridge (if) when I come to it.

You do have to contact FN but I've heard they don't even have them anymore...unless the FNX spri g works...which apparently FN's customer service people don't know
