I spent the day at the range & had a great time. :D MY shoulder is sore, I'm a little red on my cheeks. The Heat index was 100 - 105.....But it was worth it.

Despite a gusting crosswind, the best groups of the day all at 100yds, from a sandbag rest were:
1. 1-1.25" group out of a borrowed remington 700 .223 (4 of the 5 shots making on large hole. The fifth, "Flyer" was in the bullseye, but toward the opposite side).
2. A 1.5" (3 shot) group from my m96 swedish mauser. It was my last 3 rounds, after finishing sighting it in. I had a few 5 shot groups where the shots were stringing horizontally even though I was trying to time the gusts, Threre was a 5-10 minute period of relavily calm wind when I finshed with the 3 shot group.
3. A 2.25" group out of my NO1MK3 with surplus ammo. (the first 2 rounds were hang fires, almost like a flint lock, or purcussion muzzleloader.....click......boom)
4. I had a mediocre results with my type 99, Japanese rifle. It seems to shot very well, but the sight opening is so large it was hard to be consistant in elevation. I was able to walk the shots down and hit the bullseye, but it was hard to resume shooting at the correct elevation between groups.
5. a 3.5" group from my SKS with golden bear ammo (not bad IMO)
6. was able to dump a few mags with the AK into a pie plate at 100yds (again not bad IMO, for an AK 5-6" +/-) The interesting part with the AK was that it didnt seem to mater shooting off hand or from a rest.
7. I wasnt thrilled by the mosin nagant 91/30. It has a nice barrel, not counter bored with strong rifling. I was using copperwashed surplus ammo, (not sure if it was light or heavy, I suspect heavy) I was only able to shoot slightly better than the AK with the MN 91/30, from a sandbag rest (4-5"). I bought it for the history, as I have some nice WW2 rifles..... However, I was hoping the rifle would shoot a little better. (No, I'm not going to start screwing with it to improve it, I am aware that it can be done.......:scrutiny:) but for under 100, I'm still considering getting another.:D

By Friday afternoon I was thinking a range trip was in the cards for me, too. But...my Saturday devolved into a morning of errands. The afternoon turned into cutting four yards...made some money but it wasn't very fun. :(

I'm glad you had a day for the range. Sounds like you had fun. Maybe next week...

Went to the range also

I shot my new (to me) K31 for the first time. Using a 174gr Prvi Partisan load I busted a 2 liter jug of cheap orange soda at approx 225 yards. I was shooting prone unsupported. I hit the jug on the third shot. Rear sight was set at 200 meters.

I also sighted in my brothers Yugo M70B1. It came from Century shooting 5-6 inches to the right at 25 yards.

Found a bunch of pistol brass and left with more than I came with.

I've decided that the curvature of my Springfield GI 1911A1's extractor needs to be changed. Several case would not eject as they were still be held against the bolt face after firing.

It's amazing how 2 hours can fly by.:)

Braved a rain storm this morning and 50 mph winds this afternoon, rode 12 mile each way on a bicycle. But I got some solid shooting done, mostly with the M39. I'm trying out Mojo double apertures. Tough to get used to not focusing on the front sight. Old habits are hard to break, but once I got used to it the 100 yard group really started improving. A few more sessions and I should have it mastered.
