I just bought a montgomery wards western field rifle model ejn-753. It is built on an FN mauser action. I was wondering if anybody has any info on who made the rest of the gun like the barrel and trigger.

It would seem FN made the whole rifle, including the barrel & trigger, for Montgomery Wards.

I don't think they were pieced together, or assembled here by somebody else at that time.

Not exactly, but it was very likely before the 1968 Gun Control Act when the big catalog stores could still sell guns & ship them by snail mail.

This is a subject that very little information can be found. It is known that the Sears version, the Model 50, was barreled and stocked by High Standard on a FN Mauser built action. The same action was used on the Ward 's Model 753, I have read and been told that the Ward's rifle was barreled and stocked by Jefferson Arms { The same Jefferson Arms who made Colt's high power rifles }. Can I prove that for a fact? nope, but like Santa Clause, I believe it. I do know FN sold a batch of FN made Mauser actions in the 60's to buyers in the states. They may have been surplus actions that were sold for a big discount and someone jumped on them. I don't think the entire rifle was build in Belgium. Could be wrong, Goodness knows I have been wrong before:)

There was a thread somewhere recently that showed a Ward's rifle with Mauser action.
The sights were very like the ones on the Colt, Jefferson, and Kodiak rifles which all came out of the same shop. Close enough for me.

Thanks. I saw others say about Jefferson Arms to but I can't seem to find anything about them. Does anybody know of any info on them or where to find it.

You're right, there is very little information on Jefferson Mfg. Go. Somehow, Jefferson Arms and Kodiak Arms are tied in together. How or why, don't know. Kodiak Arms built the Model 98 and the 100 in the 1960,s based on Mauser FN actions ( later Kodiak used Sako actions ), at the same time Jefferson Mfg. was putting together rifles for Colt. I could find no listing for either in my current copy of Standard Catalog of Firearms and Kodiak's web site has no listing for firearms . de Hass, the same, no listing per say, perhaps because neither Kodiak or Jefferson built the rifles bur rather assembled them from parts. On the source of all knowledge, the internet, all I found was bits and pieces, a little bit there, a little bit here but not a whole lot anywhere, so don't know. Sorry about that.
