I'm going to be traveling to western NC for work in a couple of weeks. I'll be west of Ashville and north of Highlands (in the Sylva area). I was wondering about any gunshops in the area that local (THR) members would reccomend for passing time? (And maybe picking something up.:banghead:) Any to stay away from?

I'm mostly interested in used gun selections. New guns are pretty much the same anywhere.

Pawn shops are fine also. Just looking for some places with large(r) selections to look at and choose from.

Thanks,
Wyman

Go to carolina shooters forum and check it out . My shops are listed. Many good shops in the area. We have a great gun shop. Prices creek general store And a great archery shop in Coopers store in Burnsville but its a couple hours away.

there's a little hardware store in downtown Waynesville that has kind of a nice collection... it's just down the hill from the Country Club and across the street from a woodstove store.

Well, while not in Asheville (I live about 20 miles south of that freak show), Rex's of Upward road (off I-26 exit 53) has a decent selection of firearms and ammunition and an adjacent 25 yard indoor shooting range (that allows both rifles and handguns, no black powder).

On Target off Sweeten Creek road was where I used to go before Rex's was built. I haven't been there for years, but I understand they too have a decent selection of firearms and ammunition and also have an indoor range (though no rifles except for .22LR last I heard).

A buddy who lives in Arden may be able to shed some light on shops in that area. I can only take Asheville in small doses, so I don't spend much time there unless my wife drags me by my ear (she enjoys the "culture" there).

The little hardware store in Waynesville is an ACE, Cline & Bradley....ditto they keep a pretty good selection and fair prices.

On Target is good! and I used to get some good deals at Pawn World in Enka-Candler near Asheville.

Also was a great little Pawn Shop across from Ammons Drive-In (Great Food) in Dellwood just out of Waynesville on way to Maggie Valley.

enjoy your trip....:)

To clarify: Its rimfire and pistol caliber only. Pistol Caliber Carbines are fine.

I hated the fact that they didn't allow rifles, until I fired a rifle indoors...

I hate Pawn World due to their haggler pricing. Seems like they want gold for their guns, but I've heard they're easy to talk down to a reasonable price. They're a good place to go if you wont some that isn't normally stocked like .303 Brit, 7.62x45R, 7.62 tok, etc.

^^^ I do agree about Pawn World ^^^

However, I dealt with them a lot back in late 80's early 90's and at first the haggling was a put off, but after a few purchases and some trades they just pulled all haggling and went to bargain pricing and traded very well for me!

And they always had a good supply of ammo by the cases for decent prices!
Dont know now? I have not been in there in a few years....
