There's nothing but steel in a brand new 39A lever gun, either. There is a rubber buttpad, on a nice cut-checkered walnut stock. That's the only rubber.
I highly recommend the Marlins. I bought a second one in a different (older) configuration, because I liked the new one so much.
I passed on the Golden Boy when I compared it to the Golden 39A. That's not to say the Henry isn't nice; I'll take steel over shiny mystery metal, though, when I'm spending over $400. The low-end Henrys are good plinkers, though, and if you want a WMR or HMR, they're the only game in town.
The Browning is a great gun for kids IMHO. Beautifully made and finished, but too small and toy-like for my taste. Okay, spoiled kids. Kids can start with a cheaper gun.
Also, Mossberg is releasing a .22 lever gun very soon. I don't know what it will cost.
I don't know of any box fed .22 levers except the Ruger "hidden hammer" models (I can't recall the model number).
I gave up on box-fed .22 rifles including the 10/22, due to general frustration with their function. Unless they're actually broken, I have no trouble with tube feeds. YMMV.
