What .22 LR?

Another vote for the Marlin 39A and the CZ452. Unlees you have a lot of money to spend then you still want the Marlin 39A, but you want a Cooper over the CZ.

Thanks to Everyone who has offered an opinion.

Since I already have a 10/22 and I love my marlin 1894SS I'm going with the Marlin Golden 39AS after reading about the Marlin 39A I'm Sold. Just looking for a good price. What should I expect to pay? MSRP is $593.

I'll still get a bolt and any recommendation is welcome. I will order my Marlin and Ruger MKII Hunter tomorrow.

What I like about the Marlin Model 981T is NO box magazine. can shoot Short, Long or Long Rifle cartridges and has a Tubular magazine holds 25 Short, 19 Long or 17 Long Rifle cartridges.

My vote goes to the Savage Mark II, That little "mosquitos" like my wife call it's one of the funniest rifle to go out and have fun, they come with 5 or 10 round mag and the action is very smooth. here's a pic of mine.

i'm glad you like it. the .22 is my wife favorite gun, hehehe...and i love to shoot it too, it's just pure fun, the accuracy is very good and cheap to shoot.

here's another angle.

I will give you my take on 22's other than the 10/22. There is not a better lever action 22 rifle than the Marlin 39A.

I also want to pick up the Remington 547 when they become available. I don't know the price range yet, but I would guess it will be in the $600 range or so. The Model 5 and the 504 just didn't appeal to me after handling them as I was comparing them to the Remington 541-S or -T models which are great 22 rifles.

The Marlin is a good choice also for a less expensive bolt action 22. I'd like to have one with a nice walnut stock. Probably would already have bought one if they were offered that way in the last few years. The Savage Mark II is another to consider. Since you're interested in the Remie 547, I would assume that the walnut stocked Mark II would appeal to you. I noticed them on their web site, but have not seen one in person.

Others to consider; everyone seems to like the CZ452 or 453. I have a 452 Varmint. Weatherby is offering the Mark XXII (bolt action) sporter which is an elegant 22 rifle that should shoot as good as the best. The Coopers and Anshutz's are great too. You can't go wrong with either if you want to spend the money.

The Browning BL-22 was a nice 22 rifle. I've never shot a Henry; they always seemed overly heavy to me. Winchester had an old lever action in 22 also years ago.

I've never shot a Henry; they always seemed overly heavy to me

As far as 22's are concerned, the octagon barrel Henry's are actually 1/4 pound lighter than a Marlin 39A, and the standard rifle (H001) is more than a pound lighter than a 39A.

The Big Boy versions are weighty at 8.7 pounds, but that's because of the brass frame combined with an octagon barrel. They certainly aren't any heavier than any other brass-framed lever gun available today.

I was in this situation a matter of weeks ago. My answer was to order:

1 x CZ 452 American

1 x Marlin Golden 39A

Will collect the CZ in another 3 weeks or so, and the Marlin in about 3 months when it is ready (on backorder at the moment).

I did a lot of research before I bought either rifle. After ordering the CZ I thought I'd be done, but I just couldn't go past all the good things that are said about the Marlin and ordered one the other day. I have to get one and see what the fuss is all about!

Joe_Kidd, you won't regret either purchase.

I speak from experience. I owned a CZ 452 a couple of years ago.
One of the finest .22 rifles I've ever shot. Tack driver. Well-built. Smooth cycle.

I sold it only because I realized that I'm not a bolt action guy.
(That was the first bolt I've ever owned. Just didn't work for my needs.)

I replaced it with a 39A. Even though I've not shot it as much as I want to yet (long story about why), I'm just in love with it. It's well built, close enough to tack driver for me, cycles fast, carries well, a little bit of history. (For several reasons that need not be discussed here, I'm thinking of having the barrel cut down a few inches to carbine length. [Yes, folks, I'm aware of 39M, but I have my reasons for cutting down a 39A, so please save your arguments. ;) ])

So, like I said, you can't go wrong with one of each, and if you eventually decide you only want one, you're still golden.
