What a difference grips make!

I had two revolvers that were uncomfortable to shoot to the extent that I never took them out of the safe.

At the suggestion of a THR member I tried changing the grips. I ordered Hogue Exotic Hardwood grips for both and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

I am actually more accurate with them and even though I went from rubber to wood on one of them the recoil seems to be reduced.

I think it is because the grips fill my hand better on the wood ones.

I was just wondering if anyone else got grips that changed their perspective on a weapon?

I changed the grips on my S&W Model 60 and 637. Swapped out the Hogue and Uncle Mike's grips for the wood grips from the Model 60 Pro. Made both guns more comfortable but really made a difference in the Airweight while adding just .56" to the height.

Those new grips are real pretty. Nice. Hogue makes a good product.

Grips on a gun are like tires on a car.

They can severely improve or hinder comfort, handling, and overall performance.

mesinge2, in my opinion your pistols with the new grips look AMAZINGly better than with the stock ones. Really nice guns. I have the cheap Hogue rubber grips on my SP101 (bought it that way) and they are extremely comfortable. I'd like to swap them for wood though, just like the look alot better. Also want to put more comfortable grips on my Makarov, but I like that it's slim enough to carry with the stockers... Ahh decisions. :banghead:

I can't explain it but the wood grips just seem to transfer less recoil energy to my hand than the rubber ones.

Go Figure...

Yes. I just got some grips that totally changed the way the gun works. They are big and freaky-looking, but elegant in their own way.

Ever seen Herrett Target grips? They work.

Those are some pretty conservative ones compared to the big finger-groove ones on my Mark II Target.

However, it is much easier to shoot 50 rounds for score, now.

Just shot a group picture of four of my revolvers with my favorite grips.
I have others but these are my favorite grips.

The staghorn grips work surprisingly well, I think its because it is only a 38 and the recoil is not bad due to the 3" bull barrel on the model 64.

I'm all about birdseye maple.

The Ruger handles are "gunfighter" style from Cary C (www.clccustomgrips.com), which is to say they are thinner than stock. They make the Ruger single actions feel even better in my hands.

The old Bear Hug Grips on my S&Ws are from Deacon Deason (may he rest in peace) and are the Skeeter Skelton style. Far better feeling and shooting in my hands than the factory stocks.

Sarge's Bobtail 1911 handles re-engineer the grip and feel of 1911s for the better. www.thefinergrain.com

Even Sam at Omega's (www.czgrips.us) Witness grips are thinner and better contoured than the factory rubber grips.

Form and function are great, but handsome appearance sure is nice too!

Grips make a HUGE difference sometimes and, no solution works best for everyone!

On match days shooting bowling pin competitions, I liked Hogue "rubbers" on my S&W K and N frames.

However, the Hogue and Uncle Mike's "rubbers" on my J frames weren't magic at all. I discovered that the original S&W wood stocks were a little better.

Then, I discovered how wonderful the Tyler T-grips worked for me on all the frame sized S&W revolvers with both original wood stocks AND with Elk Stags! Even Airweight J-frame snubbies are fun to shoot with a firm grip and original stocks with the Tyler!!!

Thus, the rubbers are now off all my handguns!

Here are a few examples of what "works" well for me and my hands . . .

I've now gone to a Tyler T-grip with this M19/Elk Stags combo since this photo . . .

An N frame (.45ACP Model 25-2 "snubbie"), and a pair of J-frames, all with Tyler T-grips . . .

My hunting .44 Magnum, used with hard kicking 300 grain bullets, feels great with this set of Hogue "Camolamo" grips . . .

S&W fan, the Hogue "Camolamo" grips look great on blued guns. That's why put them on my model 19.

BTW, I think I am going to order some tyler grips for my J frame pre-36.
