I been looking for a full size DA/SA combat pistol chambered in 22 LR for some time. In my experience usually they are either built like crap (converted blank pistols made with Zinc alloy with horrendous finishing, think Chiappa) or with flimsy plasticky construction like toy pistols or, when you want quality, very expensive (years ago I been quoted well over $600 for a CZ Cadet, currently a SIG 226 in 22 LR goes for about 6 benjamins as well in my neck of the wood).
At a some point, I was looking for a Bersa Thunder 22-6 (basically a Thunder 380 chambered in 22 LR and with a longer 6" barrel) which is an excellent little shooter for the money but I could not locate one used anywhere (they haven't been sold in the US market for years).
As a side note I still cannot believe that such a steaming pile of non edible chocolate like the Chiappa M9 -22 is actually sold as a firearm in stores.....unbelievable...who buys junk like that?? It makes Hi-Points look like quality handguns in comparison.
Anyway, a local store run an ad for a Beretta (branded as Beretta but made by Umarex in Germany) M9-22 for $349, considering all the good reviews I read about this handgun and the fact that the M9 is my favorite pistol, I decided to check it out.....I was sold quickly!! I think, at current firearm prices is a very good value for the money, it has a nice weighty feel (not as heavy as the"real" M9 because of the polymer frame but fairly close) and, more importantly, it does mimic nicely the balance of its 9mm/40 S&W big sisters.
Parts fit is excellent, finishing is nice and even (nothing spectacular but at this price is quite good).
It comes with one metal 15 rounds magazine which I think is a nice touch. Unfortunately it has a polymer frame (at least it seems sturdy and high quality) but the slide is aluminum not Zinc.
I'm a happy camper, the search is over!!!
My Beretta bunch......92 FS, 96 and M9-22
