they are all right, a little bit better than avg., I also really dig their 180-b's, but they are price too high , in my opinion.

Armalite's are fine AR-15s
I've had a 20" standard model for quite some time. It works great for me. I had to go through a little bit of break in initially, but it shoots great. I learned a bit about getting quality mags and that Wolf ammo makes it really, really dirty.
I had a little concern about people saying the Wolf ammo is hard on extractors, but a spare bolt with extractor is about $50 and good to have anyway.

mostly, people are looking for 16" carbines, with collapisible stocks, or flat tops over carry handels. The M-15 is a good rifle though

Armalite makes 16" carbine models also.
IMHO, Armalite has nicer fit and finish than many other AR brands. Also, if you read the tech data on their website, they clearly pay attention to details, rather than just putting parts together in a garage.

Has anybody got experience with the AR-30 (I'm especially interested in the 338lapua model)?
It looks like a good simple and reasonably priced rifle that can shurely shoot true to at least one km... (please correct me if I'm wrong).
I KNOW that their AR-15s are good, I mean they invented the gun (with a large ammount of Eugene Stoners help ofcourse)!
But I'm fascinated with the AR-30 for some reason. I mean if there isnt any reason why it's a bad gun, I think it's perhaps the best lapua 338cal gun out there...
But alas, living in Finland, one cannot just get ones hands on a high caliber semi auto rifle, and now that we had a second 'crazy shooting' in a school inside one summer, they are talking of cutting the gun permits validity to some years instead of indefinite if you didnt commit certain crimes after getting the permit...
Also in the county where the two shootings happened they have suspended giving new gun licences to anybody temporarily!!!
Looks like Finland will be a tougher place to get a licence soon...
Anyway, I still have a fascination to the AR-30 in 338lapua, so if anybody has experinence with the ar-30, please drop a line!

Actually, the Armalite we're talking about here has about nothing to do with the Armalite that created the AR10, 15, 16, and 18. Today's Armalite was Eagle Arms (IIRC) just an independent maker of AR's, until the name "Armalite" became available and they purchased it.
I still think today's Armalite is a great company, but the only thing they share with 1950's Armalite is the name.

the gun below looks awesome! Is it a 16inch? Boy I wish I could take it and go on a practical path like we had in the army with pop up targets coming up sideways from behind building walls (among other things)! (Anybody want to design a great practical shooting range with me)?

UP SIDE:
i am VERY happy with my 30M in .338. has a nightforce 5.5x22x56 NXS on top with the NPR2 reticle and a 15 minute rail. perfect match for this iron. will go out to 1,000 yards with that reticle, and no cranking on the knobs.
it recoils like a medium weight 7.62x51...that muzzle break really works well!
it LOVES the black hills 300 gr sierra loading. you'll save a lot of money over the accuracy international, and this one does better with the 300 gr match king, per "special weapons" magazine test. and to me the 300 gr loading is what this caliber is all about.
DOWN SIDE:
blackhills ammo has gotten ~stupid~ expensive since they got a government contract in the .338 lapua loading.
the magazines are way overpriced.

Do you think this rifle would be any good? I have been dying for an AR-15 in 7.62x39 that didn't cost $2k (a la Robinson arms).

What price are the actual Lapua ammunitions? (I bet they cost a lot)...
But remembering the difference in our army guns (The finnish army's RK-62 series uses 7.62x39mm ammo). The Russian ammo we sometimes fired fouled like mad, the guns were black like a chimney after about 30 rounds!
But when we got those golden gleaming Lapua made rounds, they were soo clean!
Also, I noticed that the brass from the russian made rounds was left to rust, but the lapua rounds brass was collected for re-loading.

I bought one 5 yrs ago so I could put optics on it, as the agency I work for would not let us scope our duty rifles, (Bushmaster AR-15's).
I took the carrying handle off, put a BUIS on it, and then put an EOTECH on the rail in front of that.
I put a vertical fore-grip on it and added a Gladiator tactical light to a rail mount on the side of the barrel. Oh, I took the collapsible stock off and put an A-2 fixed on it as I've got the gorilla complex.(6"4", 250 Lbs)
The stupid thing still looks like a mattel toy when I carry it!
It shoots real well to about 300 meters.
My entry weapon is a built-up registered AR-15 pistol with the full length carbine buffer tube on it. The lower is a DPMS and the upper is a Model 1, 11.5" Commando.
It shoots real well out to about 150 meters, then the pattern spreads slightly to about 4 inches.
I have the same light on it as the Armalite, but no fore-grip as it would change the classification to an, AOW, (or any other weapon status) It also has the tritium sights on it.
The department armorer certified it as all the parts are stock.
The one drawback is that it's LOUD. Must wear plugs or muffs at the range.
((It absolutely drives the LT nuts when I carry this thing))
