Well it turns out that what the Dean folks actually accomplished was forcing "Comeback" Kerry to start Bush bashing earlier than expected.

But, I think some people actually bought that Dean was not a bad RKBA candidate. (I'll buy that he was the least bad of the Democratic bunch - even more confirmed with Kerry's stupid shananigans yesterday).

So are we ever going to see another leftist who, though wanting AWB bans and closing gun-show loopholes, otherwise wants to leave gun laws up to the states? Kerry sure doesn't.

Dean was not a 2A supporter - don't get me wrong - he wanted AWB and closing the loophole.

But overall he seemed - and I could be wrong - to not be trying to make us "turn 'em all in" as the Feinstein/Schumers/ and (goofy hunting photo ops don't count) Kerry does.

I guess my point is, could a socially liberal Democrat embrace the real 2A (not the hunters and sportsmen nonsense) and have any chance of getting elected?

In any case, the Dems have made their choice: that stiff Kerry was pushed forward by the "Anybody But Bush" crowd, making their choice not to run on their own candidate, but to gamble that so many people hate Bush that they will accept a cardboard cut-out rather than 4 more years of Bush.

I ain't buyin' it, Bush has my vote, but as a one issue voter I just wish I had a real choice.

Hopefully that picture of "thumbs up" Kerry with Schumer, Feinstein, and Kennedy will make the rounds of the firearms boards, especially those with lots of hunters - along with Kennedy's "30-30 ban rant".

I doubt we'll get to know. At this time the Democrat Party is dominated by its way-to-the-left-wing. Therefore any potential candidate that's like you describe isn't likely to get nominated, let alone elected. Dean vs. Kerry is an excellent example of how it works in the real world.

As for Dean (and I presume his supporters) ....

He favored the AW Ban.

He favored closing the (so called) Gun Show Loophole.

And he would have had no objections to all of the states using California's laws as good examples too go to.

I don't think I would have liked living in the kind of country he had in mind.
