California Sen. Feinstein Endorses Kerry

SAN FRANCISCO - Democrat John Kerry's presidential bid got an influential endorsement Tuesday from California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who praised him for having the "strength, experience, leadership and judgment to be an excellent president."

Feinstein is the state's senior senator and arguably the most popular politician in vote-rich California. She is one of only two senators to endorse Kerry's presidential bid so far - the other being his Massachusetts colleague, Sen. Ted Kennedy.

In a statement, Feinstein said she was supporting Kerry for his leadership on a number of issues, including health care, tax policy and the environment. She also singled out his support for gun control and, specifically, a ban on assault weapons, which Feinstein wrote and is trying to extend over Republican objections.

"The assault weapon ban will expire next year," Feinstein wrote. "We need a president who will actively urge Congress to extend it, and John Kerry will do just that."

The endorsement comes at a critical time for the Massachusetts senator, who has seen his presumed front-runner status eclipsed in recent months by the surge of rival Howard Dean, the former Vermont governor.

A decorated Vietnam veteran who has tried to position himself as the best candidate to challenge President Bush on national security issues, Kerry faces competition Wesley Clark, the former supreme NATO commander who is poised to enter the Democratic race on Wednesday.

Other Democratic senators in the field include Bob Graham of Florida, Joe Lieberman of Connecticut and John Edwards of North Carolina, who formally launched his campaign Tuesday.

Now THERE is a helluva reason to not vote for the guy if there ever was one...

MS. Feinstein needs to check her calander, the assault weapon ban will have been expired for three months before President :barf: Kerry could actively urge congress to extend it. What a maroon....

We are seeing the frantic squawking of the Brady-ites as their empire of lies crumbles

here in MD they are using the probable sunset of the 1994 ban as a reason to make a replacement State law.

Lets see the federal government gave it a sunset to see if it was useful in deterring crime.
it was not
so it goes away automatically

and thats a good reason to make a new law banning more rifles?
They barely squeaked the 1994 law thru and many politicos payed the unelection price.

Gee, which Democrat candidate will be the front runner by Mothersday 2004 MMM rally? I can't see a winner in the bunch.

This is such an important issue in our struggle, folks. This could determine the future of our gun rights for years to come. Once an issue is off the agenda it will
be very difficult for them to initiate new infringements as other matters come to the forefront. Everyone, write write write, cal call call . . .

The shrill cries of our enemies are music to my ears! LOL

"A decorated Viet-Nam veteran"

True statement, but upon his return to civilian life
was seen throwing U.S. military medals at the White
House; joining thousands of war protestors on "The
Mall" of Washington; and denouncing the war as
"unjust and unfair".

At least this scumbag did more than our 42nd
President Billary Clinton; as he did serve. But some
where, "Hanoi Jane" must have got to him, cuz he
did an about face real quick.

Best Wishes,

I find that part of the statement most interesting. Reading between the lines, is Feinstein agreeing that the renewal next year is dead?

Why is it important to the dems that Kerry or Clark are veterans? They gleefully supported the First Draft Dodger and his anti military stance.

True, but unfortunately of course, it can be re-enacted at ANY time before OR after the old one sunsets. There is no time limit on our need for vigilance with choads like them in gov't. I only hope and pray that *IF* it is re-enacted, there's at least 6 months or so after the old one sunsets where manuf'ers can tool up and crank out some fullcaps for existing rifles and pistols.
