What about the VX1 line of Leupold scopes?

I have two recent purchases, a Sig 716 and a Springfield M1A standard, both in 308, neither of which will see much field time.

I want a 4-12 power scope for them.

What about the VX1 line of Leupold scopes?

SWFA seems to have a reasonable price for them.

I bought a VX-1 2x7x33 back in 2004 and mounted it on my lightweight old Remington 600 in 308 and have put many boxes of ammo through it and the scope has held up and has never lost zero.
The eye relief is one of the best features of the scope as well as all Leupold scopes.
When I shoulder the rifle the target is right there without having to move around up or down the rifle to get the right line of sight.
Last,and I generally say this everytime I am in a thread about Leupolds is the fact that 20 years from now if your Leupold needs repairs you can send it back to Oregon and they will be able to refurbish it.
On todays Asian scopes your sol because that scope will have been long ago discontinued.

Thnx. Others have said windage and elevation are friction, not click. Do you notice the difference?

I *think* the new VX-1 has audible clicks but mine are the older friction type.
However once I sighted my 308 in back in March of 2004 it has not been touched since.
I wish mine had the click adjusts but oh well.
I also have that scope mounted on the rifle using Leupold dovetail bases and rings which are a rugged combo.

They are good quality scopes with the full lifetime warranty. I shot my first antelope with one at 225 yards and it worked just fine.

If you compare the glass to one of their VXIII's you can see a difference.

But the quality is first class and they hold up very well. If it ever breaks you can send it in for repair.

The adjustments on mine are made using a coin. They do click. Don't know if the really old ones might have been friction. Mine holds zero without fail and I have had it for close to 10 years.

I think they are one of the best used scopes out there. You will also find that each year as Leupold upgrades their scopes that the VXI has improved too. So it would be possible to get a newer VXI that would compare to an older VXII.

If you are shopping you can call Leupold with the serial number and they can tell you the year it was made.

You might also take a look at the Redfield Revolution line. Redfield is owned by Leupold. Take a look at a VX-1 and a Revolution side-by-side and tell me if you see any family resemblance...

I have a Redfield Revolution on my Rem 700 in .30-06 and I love it. When I was shopping around for a scope I tried the Vx-I and Vx-II. While most people say the redfield compares to the Vx-I, I found it more like the 2. For the money it is a great scope and I would buy another in a heartbeat.
