Ran across a mint Springfield M1A. I'm guessing it's a "loaded" model. It has a stainless NM barrel, marked Springfield and has a NM front sight. It has a standard rear sight. It has a TRW bolt and a TRW trigger group (or at least the hammer). Very good trigger. Unfortunately, it has the dismal Springfield black plastic stock. They want $995 for it. (I think this is high for a used rifle.)

Who makes these barrels for SA? Are they any good?

Thanks for any help,
Steve

I wish I could get $1400 our of a Loaded...I'd buy 'em by the truckload.

Is it at a dealer or is it a private sale? You could offer $950...complain about the stock.

I don't know who builds the barrels. Just hope the receiver wasdrilled square.

I used to think that the black fiberglass stock sucks. However, I like it more now, since I replaced the stock rubber extension with a real M14 buttplate. May be I'll paint it like the other Thread.. :)

It can take beating, and you don't have to worry about it much.

Just MHO.

PS:<edited> I second Engineer's comment. Fred's stock is good stuff, real GI - which means that there are selector's cut on the right side.

Sounds like a good price for the M1A. Another place to get stocks is Fred's - just be aware that it will take a few weeks for your order to arrive. I ordered a "Big Red Birch" and it turned out great after I stripped and refinished it.

Just buy it. Remember, the plastic stock is more stable.

The stock on this one, while it looks new now, is a piece of trash. The paint scratches off with your finger nail. It looks cheap. It would defintely be replaced.

I'm just wondering if this thing is more desireable because of the GI parts, but I don't know anything about the quality of that barrel.

Thanks again,
Steve

Sorry, looks like CMP got rid of all their M14 stocks. CMP North store only listed a buttplate, handguard, and spring guide with spring for the M14.
I guess Fred's stocks is the way to go. They had a lot more parts last year!

Re: that rifle at that price.... sounds like a heck of a deal.

Update: ODCMP is OUT of M14 parts. The party is over. For those who got some and have spares, PM me and we might be able to trade. I have surpluses of some parts, shortages of others.
